Hidden Gems of Norwich | Katie’s Cake Box

Wandering around Norwich Market, you will almost certainly come across a unique stall which appeals to your retail needs. If you happen to stumble across stall number 126, then you’re definitely in for a treat (or two!). Stall 126 is Katie’s Cake Box, a stall containing delicious, beautiful and innovative cakes and cookies. The displays are eye catching, which makes it very difficult to choose just one cake to take away!

As well as beautiful cakes and treats to take away, Katie’s Cake Box also make custom celebration and wedding cakes to order. Let me tell you, they are absolutely stunning too!

I first discovered Katie’s Cake Box whilst on Instagram and I can honestly say that it is now one of the most beautiful accounts I follow. Be sure to have a look – you won’t be able to stop! You can find them here.

I went away with a Chocolate Orange Cookie Dough Bar (lucky me!) and it was literally heaven with every mouthful. I’ve actually never had anything cookie dough related, so was really intrigued to try it. It’s a bestseller at the stall too, so I had to try the thing everyone loves! I shared it with my husband as it was so rich and filling – very, very good! We both really enjoyed it and would highly recommend.

Last, but not least, I had to mention these amazing cookies – they’re unicorns and they are absolutely adorable. I imagine these sell out pretty quickly too!

So next time you’re in Norwich and vsiting the market, be sure to visit Katie’s Cake Box on Row F, Stall 126 – you won’t be able to walk away empty handed! If you do go, please let me know, I’d love to know what you buy!

SENSSE | Hot and Cool Facial Bar

I was sent the SENSSé Hot and Cool Facial Bar in exchange for a review. When I received the product from Amazon, I was genuinely blown away with its beautiful packaging and the way the facial bar itself looks. The box is a good, solid matte white cardboard, with the Senssé logo on the front, in rose gold. Inside you receive the facial bar, a USB charger and 2 year warranty/instruction manual.

The facial bar itself is absolutely beautiful – with its subtly shimmery white design and accents of rose gold. The bar itself is extremely smooth. I couldn’t wait to try it on my skin! When using for the first time, the device needs to be charged for at least six hours on its lovely rose gold base.

There are four functions on the facial bar – heat, heat with vibrations, cool, cool with vibrations. The hot mode feels absolutely amazing! This mode increases blood circulation and relaxes facial muscles. The cool mode also feels lovely – especially on a hot day – and helps to reduce the appearance of pores and help skin absorb your facial moisturiser. The product lights up with a whit light, and the dots, which also illuminate, indicate which setting you are currently on. It also makes a clear beeping sound when you change functions.

20170801_173024

To use the product – place moisturiser on the plate before switching on. It is preferable that you use a water soluble moisturiser. Turn the bar on and it will get warm very quickly. Move it over the skin on your face for around 30 seconds. Press the button next to switch to hot mode with vibrations. This will stimulate skin further and help you achieve that natural glow. After another 30 seconds, switch to cool mode. You’ll hear the internal fan kick in at this point – I can’t actually believe how quickly it gets cold! The final setting is cool with vibrations and this is a lovely final facial massage which will help relax you and minimise pores. This should be done 3-5 times a week and takes about 2 minutes in total.

Now for my thoughts!

  • As you can tell from my gushing above, I absolutely love how this item looks. You could say that it is very ‘Instagramable’ and I really enjoyed photographing it. I’m also currently trying to find a practical use for the box it came in too, because it will just look beautiful wherever I put it!
  • I love the way the hot mode feels on my skin, to me this is the best part. It really does help with the absorption of my moisturiser and I love this
  • The vibration mode really isn’t the best – it could be better. I don’t actually know what benefits it is having to my face and skin and it just isn’t really needed in my opinion
  • It charges very quickly and just looks even more beautiful on its throne of a charging base
  • The cool mode is very refreshing and as I said before, it gets cool very quickly and is wonderful if you’re feeling pretty warm. I use it on my face after a run as I turn into a good shade of tomato very quickly! This calms my skin right back down and means I can continue to put on my makeup without lovely sweat and red patches making an appearance

To buy your own Sensse Hot and Cool Facial Bar, visit Amazon here (where it is currently on offer – almost half price!) or to find out more visit the Sensse website here.

Fresh Naturals | Natural, Vegan and Organic Pampering Goodies

oK40YhQ-

We all need a bit of a pamper sometimes what with long working hours, family life and just general everyday stresses. When Fliss from Fresh Naturals offered to send me some gorgeous samples to put to the pamper test, I really couldn’t refuse. I rarely get time to just lie back in the bath and relax, but made sure I set myself some time aside. Baby J was in bed and the husband was on the xbox – perfect! Here are the products I put to the test, along with others I have been using over the last couple of weeks.

Keep reading for a special 20% off code too!

Tropical Crush Bath Bomb (150g) – £3.25

This bath bomb took a long time to dissolve in my bath, which I love. I feel that this is the sign of a good quality bath bomb – cheaper ones just tend to dissolve in a matter of seconds, whereas this one was going for a good few minutes. It filled my whole bathroom with fruity and tropical aromas which gave me a positive energy boost. Beautiful! This bomb contains Apricot Kernel oil for soft skin and mineral-rich dead sea salt. Buy yours here.

Wake Up and Go Handmade Bath Bomb (120g) – £3.00

I haven’t used this one yet, as I’m saving it for a rare morning bath treat. It smells incredible though! This bomb contains sense awakening oils that will wake you up, ready for the day including peppermint oil and lemon oil. Buy yours here.

Tea Tree and Poppy Seed Natural Sugar Scrub – £3.50

When I spoke to Fliss about this product, she said that they are one of her best sellers – one customer even bought fifteen of them! The are different combinations to choose from including, Peppermint and Blue Cornflower, Avocado and Olive Oil and Lemon, Grapefruit and Calendula.  These can either be used on your feet, like a pumice stone, or run under warm water and then rubbed over the skin. I used it the second way, especially on my arms and it left them smelling great and feeling silky smooth. Buy yours here.

A Pamper Pack of Mini Bath Time Treats

Oh my goodness, I actually squealed a little bit when I opened up the box containing all these beautiful goodies! Inside I received (from left to right in photo) –

In the Know | Vegan Leather

I thought that today instead of reviewing a product, I would bring you an informative article about vegan leather – something which might intrigue you. I was certainly interested to know more about vegan leather – How can leather be vegan? Is it still leather if it’s not made from animal products? Does it last as long?

7945057524_b9546dda6b.jpg

So how is vegan leather sourced? It is a fake leather-like material not made from animal skin. Many materials can be used to make vegan leather, including synthetics like plastic and more natural materials like cork. You may have referred to vegan leather as ‘pleather’ – a term used which combines plastic and leather. This is because most faux leathers are made using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyurethane (PU), which are plastic based materials.

download.jpg

These materials have raised issues as to their production and its impact on the environment. It is however, difficult to source natural materials to produce a hardy enough material for faux leather although it has been attempted with kelp and pineapple leaves.

How is vegan leather made? Faux leather is produced in a very different way to leather. Different chemicals and a totally different industrial process is used. The most common way to make it is to bond together a plastic coating to a fabric backing. Depending on what plastics are used, defines whether it is eco friendly. Be sure to check this out if you’re after a true vegan leather.

download (1).jpg

The big question: Is vegan leather better than real leather? Vegan leather is usually a lot lighter than leather and thinner. It is also more lightweight which makes it a lot easier to work with in terms of fashion. The drawback to this is that it makes it a lot less durable. I’m sure you all have at least one leather item in your household/family which has been going for decades and still looking good. Leather is just generally a lot more hard-wearing. This is an important factor to consider when deciding between fake leather and real leather as the environmental impact of replacing a fake leather product multiple times is arguably more damaging than the purchase of one real leather item.

images.jpg

So in conclusion, the choice is yours. There are some fabulous vegan leathers available including those produced by Dr. Martens – you really can’t tell the difference! Just consider the environmental impact your faux leather may be having on the environment and check before you buy.

  • Home and Interior Accessories – candles, kitchen and dining, throws and cushions

The layout of the shop is thoughtfully and carefully positioned to showcase all of the beautiful items from a large variety of brands and designers. As you browse the shop, you will come across gifts from many designers and sellers, some of whom you may have never heard of before.

Designers include –

  • Sophie Allport and more!

The men’s gifts are gorgeous too! The range includes wash bags, shower gels and body scrubs, home accessories and other unique ideas.

Candles provide displays which really stand out when you walk inside. My husband particularly liked these beautiful tin candles. Let me tell you, they smelt delicious!

Other candle brands include –

  • The Country Candle Company

Being the mother of a baby myself, I was particularly drawn to the baby gifts. I absolutely adore Rufus Rabbit (and so does Baby J!) so was excited to see that they had some of the toys and accessories in store.

There were other baby gifts, which were made to such a high standard and of beautifully soft materials, that I wanted to go back in time to when my baby was teeny tiny so I could give them to her. You won’t be at a loss if youre looking for the perfect gift for a baby shower. You’ll also be able to pick up something for the mother-to-be whilst you’re there!

Pusheenicorn! | GUND UK

When I was asked to review a Pusheen plushie, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only do I find Pusheen adorable, I just knew Baby J would too! To be more precise, I was asked to write about Pusheenicorn – a Pusheen cat in a unicorn costume! It sounds crazy, but it works! This Pusheenicorn takes cuteness to another level and when teamed up with my Baby J, it’s too adorable to handle!

Pusheen is an extremely popular illustrated cat with over 9 million followers on Facebook. Over 10 million Pusheen stickers are sent over social media EVERY DAY as this cat is perfect at summing up whatever mood you’re in with her cute expressions and costume changes.

Pusheenicorn was sent to me by a company called GUND UK, who specialise in high-quality and unique plushies to suit everyone. Pusheenicorn has a rainbow mane of very soft synthetic fur, a stuffed rainbow tail and a holo unicorn horn (that Baby J loves to pull and chew!). She is also made of a beautifully soft fabric, which Baby J rubs on her face for comfort. She has definitely stolen this from me! The cat’s facial features are embroidered on, meaning there aren’t any small, plastic parts which could fall off and be swallowed.

To purchase your own Pusheenicorn, visit GUND UK here, or to take a look at the other Pusheens they have on offer, click here. Also, take a look at the GUND UK homepage here, they have a selection of gorgeous toys including, Peter Rabbit, Boo, Grumpy Cat, Sesame Street and other baby toys.

Join Me On My 10K Journey – Part 2

I have literally just got home from my fourth run in seven days and have therefore completed week 8, day 3 of Couch to 5K! Next week is my final week of training, then it’ll be a few 5ks, then onto my 10k training program!

I am absolutely obsessed with running at the moment. It’s been a struggle keeping it to just every other day to be honest. On the days I’m not going for runs, I stare longingly out of the window wishing I was out of breath and dying along the pavement (well not really dying, but you know what I mean!). I know that my body needs those rest days though.

With each run, my pace per kilometre has improved. I had a look back over my statistics on Strava from 2015 when I  was training and getting fit for my wedding and I’m actually faster now than I was then! I’m amazed that I’m actually fitter now than I was before having a baby. Thinking about Baby J does make my runs go better though, I love thinking about all the lovely things we’ve done together during the day – it makes the time go faster! She’s my determination to do well.

In terms of the Run Norwich 10K, I have now raised £40 for the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation. I need to raise £100 by the 19th June, which I know is achievable as I have some lovely, supportive friends and family. It’s a brilliant charity and I’m so proud to be running for them. They have invited me to a meet up at the football ground, with a free ticket to the charity football match, Jamie’s Game. Really excited for this too!

Thanks for joining me for another installment of my 10k training journey. I really appreciate the support I’ve received from some of you.

Until next time!

Favourites | April 2017

Hello and welcome to a new series on my blog! Here I will be rounding up my monthly favourites from the previous month. April was a busy one for me in terms of trying out new products – I received some new things for my birthday and was also sent a few little PR packages. I hope you enjoy this roundup – let me know your favourites from April too – I love discovering new things!

BH Cosmetics Shaaanxo 18 Colour Eyeshadow and Lipstick Palette

My husband bought me this beautiful eyeshadow and lipstick combo palette from BH Cosmetics and Shaaanxo. Shaaanxo is one of my favourite beauty gurus from YouTube and if you haven’t already, you should definitely check her out – her tutorials are incredible!

The palette contains 9 eyeshadows (3 matte and 6 shimmer) and 9 stunning lipstick colours. I am just in love with this palette – it’s perfect for everyday wear and the pigmentation on the shadows is incredible. The palette is an amazing price on BeautyBay.com too – just £18.00 with free delivery. I highly recommend this one. You can buy your own here.

100% Natural Australian Jojoba Oil

This was another birthday gift from my lovely husband. I had been after some of this oil for a while as I heard that it does wonderful things for your skin. As the only plant in the world known to produce a wax similar to our own skin’s sebum, it is able to penetrate deep into the skin.  It also contains powerful antioxidants, Omega 6 & 9 essential fatty acids, and Vitamin A, D and E. I use it on my face every other evening and I can’t believe the effect is has had already, in just a matter of weeks. It has reduced redness on my cheeks, I have had less breakouts on my chin and forehead and my skin is just amazingly smooth and soft. I’m so impressed! I know that my husband purchased this from Holland and Barrett, but you can pick one up online here.

SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara

As I am currently on unpaid maternity leave, money is pretty much non-existent. So when I ran out of mascara, I desperately searched the web for a good and cheaper alternative. I came across a few reviews of this SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD mascara and I have to agree with the good ratings. I have very short and stumpy lashes, so I’m always looking for a mascara that will add length to the lashes, without weighing them down. This one separates my lashes and makes them extra long. I’ll use it in a tutorial soon! You can buy yours here.

I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts – Goddess of Love Highlighter

I cannot stop wearing this highlighter. It is so beautiful. It’s gold with a peachy/pink reflect. It is very pigmented and a little goes a long way. You get 10g of product, which will last you a long time. Once again, this product is available at my favourite beauty website – TAM Beauty here. You can also purchase it at Superdrug.

Makeup Revolution Duo Brow Pencil Light Brown

I always prefer to draw on my eyebrows with a pencil and was excited to try this Makeup Revolution one. I got it in the shade light brown, which is actually a perfect match for me. I really like that it has a little spooly brush on the end. It’s always good to start your eyebrow routine the right way by brushing your brows into place. Once again, this pencil has excellent pigmentation and very little product is needed on each eyebrow. Buy yours here.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt & Contour Kit – Ultra Fair C01

Oh my goodness, this little kit is fantastic! It is just £3 and for this you get a lot of pigment for your money! The kit contains a bronzer, highlighter and blush. I originally bought this for the blush, which is pink with a stunning peach reflect. It really warms up the skin and gives a healthy glow. However, I have also been reaching for the bronzer everyday as it’s a gorgeous tone on my skin. And now for the highlighter… It’s blinding! I think it is actually one of the most pigmented and stunning highlighters in my whole collection (and I own a lot of them!). Buy yours here

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick Vow

These new lipsticks from Makeup Revolution really remind me of the Charlotte Tilbury ones, but are a fraction of the price at £4. They are velvety soft and glide onto the lips. I have it in the shade Vow, which is a brown nude. This is very long wearing and I find it to be nourishing on my lips. I’m hoping to buy a couple more shades from the range in the future. Buy yours here.

Oh K! Sweet Peach Detangle BrushOh K! Sweet Peach Detangle Brush

This cute little detangling brush was from my sister, on my birthday. It smells like peaches! It is so adorable and just shows how well my sister really knows me – I love anything with a cute, happy face on it! It also does a good job of detangling my crazy hair too. I love it!  Buy one for yourself here.

Essibea | Unique and Pretty Pieces for your ‘Girl-Cave’

A couple of weeks ago, I received a lovely message on Instagram from Stacey of the online store Essibea asking to share one of my photos of her shop page. I felt so flattered that someone liked both my photography and the makeup look I had created (see the look here). This was also a huge compliment because Stacey is super talented herself – her online store is beautiful, with carefully selected quirky and unique products, all shown off perfectly with her brilliant photography. Stacey was lovely enough to send me a box of treats and I thought I’d share a few with you today!

Beauty Junky Vanilla Lip Balm

I’ve owned this lip balm before and was so sad when it ran out. My local Boots stores don’t stock it anymore, so I couldn’t get my hands on a replacement. I was so happy to see that Essibea sell them though! Along with other Beauty Junky products, including other flavours of balm and hand creams. This lip balm is so adorable to look at – I just love the rose gold packaging and the domed balm inside. It is very softening on the lips too. Also in this photo you can see a keyring from Sass & Belle and door sign, both from Essibea (not currently on the website). Buy your lip balm here.

Mermaid Makeup Brush

This is by far my favourite Essibea product to date! It is just exactly what I look for in a makeup brush – soft bristles, good quality and the shape of a mermaid’s tail! It is also available in a rose gold option (which I’ll be purchasing soon!). I’ve found that this brush is brilliant for applying highlight to the cheekbones. Buy your own here.

Oh K! Nail Polish Remover Pot

I love the brand Oh K! They make cute, Korean inspired products for the home and beauty. This little nail polish remover pot is scented with jasmine, so doesn’t have that horrible nail polish remover smell, we all have to suffer through. It is a brilliantly quick way to remove your nail varnish, just open the lid, stick your nail in the sponge, twist your finger and Ta-Dah! Your polish is gone! Very handy for on the go. Buy yours here.

OH K! Coconut Water Fibre Face Mask

As you know, I love sheet masks and coconut – so combine the two and I’m in heaven! You get three masks inside the pack, which makes them excellent value for money. The masks are very cooling and nourishing. I did mine before bed and woke up with very soft skin. They also smell amazing! The masks mould to your skin and should be left on for up to 20 minutes. Just remove the mask afterwards and massage the leftover product into your face and neck – no rinsing required! Buy your own pack of masks here.

BLACK-WATERMARK-SMALL_450x

I hope that this sneak peek of some of the beautiful products available on the Essibea store has made you want to take a look at the site. Stacey set this business up on her own and has worked hard to make it as perfect as it is. She was inspired by women having their own ‘girl cave’ and beautiful things to go inside it. Why should men have all the cool stuff, hey? Check out the website here. I’ve heard whispers that Stacey will soon be making and selling her own range of phone cases (lots of glitter included!).

Join Me On My 10K Journey

I have been running for a while now (with a year’s break whilst I was pregnant and then with a new baby) and I just love how it makes me feel. I love the feeling of euphoria after a run, the bit of ‘me time’ I get and the sense of achievement with every extra metre I run.

I am currently in the process of training for a 5K as I lost my fitness after pregnancy. I’m on Week 6 of the Couch to 5K® program which involves 5 minute walks, followed by 20+ minutes of running. This program has been great for me and I had previously been going out for runs 2 or 3 times a week.

In July, I will be taking part in the Colour 5K with my mum (she’s Superwoman) which I also did two years ago. I have done a few 5K events now and really felt I needed a new challenge, so I signed up for the Run Norwich 10K! Scary!

I’m running this on a charity place for the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation, an amazing charity that helps disadvantaged young people in Norfolk achieve their sporting dreams. You can find out more here. I need to raise a minimum of £100 for the charity and after only two days I’m already a quarter of the way there!

//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js

I will complete the 5k training plan and then progress onto the 10k one. I am also doing four runs a week now – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I’m really back in the swing of things!

I also post regular updates on my Instagram story – @sparkle.with.kerry

I am hoping to write these posts bi-weekly so you can keep up-to-date with my progress (if you actually want to!).
