Basic Beauty Tools | Foundation Blender and Spongedry

I am very excited to be sharing this product with you. The Basic Beauty Tools Spongedry is a brilliant little device which holds your Foundation Blender whilst it dries, after cleaning and use. The product was designed by Chantal of Basic Beauty Tools, who was frustrated by the lack of tools available to care for the sponges that consumers sell to beauty lovers. She wanted to make a product that was nice to look at, appealing to all age groups and easy to take on your travels. This design has certainly achieved all that!

Basic Beauty Tools also have their own range of Foundation Blenders which have a unique design – they are teardrop shaped with a flat edge. This design makes it brilliant for getting into hard to reach areas like under the eyes and around the nose. The sponge is made from materials which make it quick-drying, but also strong and more durable than other sponges already on the market.

I can honestly say (and you know I’ll always give my honest opinion on products), that this is the best beauty sponge I’ve ever used. I’ve tried the original Beauty Blender, Spectrum’s Unicorn Tears along with others from Primark, etc and this one beats them hands down. The sponge is so incredibly soft, it hardly absorbs any of the product – spreading it evenly over your skin. I also use it to set my under-eye concealer with powder and it distributes this amazingly well too.

In the photo below, I have wet the purple sponge ready for use and placed it next to a dry version. It expands so much!

The innovative Spongedry itself is very easy to use. The packaging provides simple step-by-step instructions for use. You simply just press the little feet to get the rings into position and your sponge will sit safely inside.

Tucked inside the packaging is also a cute little travel pouch, so your Spongedry can go wherever you go!

Every now and then, you get a gem of a product launched into the world of beauty and this is definitely one of them. The Spongedry looks so cute in my beauty area and I love that I can clean my sponge and know that it will be dry quickly without worrying it will roll off somewhere and never return (I’ve lost many sponges this way!).

The Foundation Blender itself is just fantastic – I’ll never use anything else now. I also have a special discount code so that you can get one for yourself FREE if you buy a Spongedry. To claim, just add your code in the ‘add note to seller’ box at checkout.

For a pink sponge use the code – KERRYPINK

For a purple sponge use the code – KERRYPURPLE

For a black sponge use the code – KERRYBLACK

Belle’s Beauty and Glitz Cosmetics 35F Palette | Review, Swatches and Tutorial

Here it is! The third installment on my series of reviews, swatches and tutorials on the Belle’s Beauty and Glitz Cosmetics eyeshadow palettes. This one is the 35F – a palette containing 35 beautiful and versatile shades. There are seven highly pigmented matte shades and 28 shimmer shades.

This palette is right up my street as it contains orange-toned, warm and Autumnal themed tones which are my go-to colours. I find these colours really make my blue eyes pop and are just stunning to work with and create beautiful looks.

I randomly swatched some of my stand-out shimmer shades below –

Here are six of the seven matte tones (I couldn’t swatch the first colour as it is a perfect match for my skin tone and wasn’t showing up on camera!) –

As usual, I had a go at creating a simple, but statement eye look with this palette. I added eyeliner this time (something I’m terrified to do!) but you can recreate this look without it.

  1. I used one of the lightest matte orange shades in my crease

2. I then deepened the outer crease colour with the next matte orange shade along in the palette

3. I used a pink, shimmer shade all over my lid and blended up to the crease. This pink shade is gorgeous! It has a peachy/gold duochrome shimmer to it which, when it catches the light, is blinding!

4. I deepened the outer V colour with a purple shade from the far left column of the palette and also ran this along my lower lashline

5. Finally, I attempted eyeliner – sorry I’m no good at applying this!

Once again, Belle’s Beauty and Glitz Cosmetics haven’t failed to impress me with yet another beautiful palette. The colours and pigmentation are just brilliant. The quality and range of colours present endless looks and they send my creative mind into overdrive!

If you would like to purchase the Glitz Cosmetics 35F palette for yourself for only £13.99, then click here.

Makeup Tutorial for Sunset Eyes using the Belle’s Beauty & Glitz Cosmetics 12P Pigmented Vibrant Palette

Today I will be showing you how to create a Sunset Eyeshadow look with this beautiful Glitz Cosmetics 12P palette from Belle’s Beauty. This is my second post about the gorgeous palettes from Belle’s Beauty and you can read my first post here.

Once again, we have another top-quality, stunning 12 colour eyeshadow palette. This one features 6 matte and 6 shimmer shades – all bright and bold!

I have swatched all the shades from left to right, starting on the top row.

12P Swatches taken without a camera flash
12P Swatches taken with a camera flash

As the weather is getting progressively warmer and more sunny, I thought it was only appropriate to create an eyeshadow look that reflects a sunset. Please let me know if you have a go at this – I’d love to see what you achieve – I may even feature your photos on the blog!

Step 1 – Apply the pink shade along the lashline and blend around halfway up the eyelid

Step 2 – Take the muted orange shade just above the pink and blend up into the lower part of the crease

Step 3 – Now take the bolder orange shade and emphasise the outer crease and eyelid with it. Use a fluffy brush to blend out any harsh lines. Don’t worry if it looks messy at this point – stick with it as you’ll tidy it up at the end

Step 4 – Use the yellow shade above all the previous colours and on the brow bone. Be quite light-handed with this colour, you want it to be subtle

Step 5 – Tidy under the eyebrow using a small brush and the white shade

Step 6 – To create an ‘ocean’ effect use the blue, teal and purple along your lower lash line. I did this in sections and blended them at the edges for an ombre effect

The colours in this palette are super pigmented and were just so perfect for this eye look. They blend so beautifully too which means the ombre effect needed was easy to achieve. This look is just perfect for Summer – whether that be on holiday, evenings out or festivals. I can’t wait to recreate it again using other colours from the palette. I also think it would look great with black winged eyeliner – or even gold!

To buy your own Glitz Cosmetics 12P Palette visit Belle’s beauty here. Be sure to check out their other palettes too – some are in the sale! I will be featuring another palette in a tutorial soon – subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss it!

Makeup Revolution ~ I Heart Makeup – Unicorn Love Palette with Swatches!

Makeup Revolution’s sister brand I Heart Makeup, have just launched this beauty. It’s the Unicorn Love palette and oh my gosh, it has a furry outer case!

Inside you get 16 matte and shimmer shades all with elements of fantasy and unicorn. Each shade has a fairytale name, for example – Fortune, Magic, Wings, Sparkle (my personal favourite name for obvious reasons!). There is a lovely range of shades – not as wild as I’d have expected from a palette named after creatures of the rainbow – but they are subtly beautiful. There are some perfect crease and transition colours, some beautiful, glittery brights and some all-round stunning shimmery shades.

You also receive a double-ended sponge applicator. I would’ve preferred a brush as I find sponge applicators to be the most useless makeup tools known to man – why oh why? There is a large and extremely useful mirror which spans across the whole inner casing lid and doesn’t distort you like something from the House of Mirrors.

I have swatched all of the shades for you below – I took one photo with the flash on and one without. I swatched from left to right, starting on the top row.

Unicorn Love Palette – Taken without a camera flash
Unicorn Love Palette – Taken with a camera flash

The shades I am particularly impressed with are –

  • Flutter – a beautiful peachy shade
  • Fortune and Gallop – both orangey/pinky browns one is shimmer, one is matte
  • Story – Gold and so sparkly – just stunning!
  • Wings – The perfect neutral brown crease shade
  • Love – a gorgeous champagne gold and white

I created this look with the palette, here’s how –

  1. All over the lid, use Pure to set your primer and create a smooth base
  2. In the crease, use Flutter
  3. On the outer crease, use Wings to add more definition
  4. To create a Halo Eye look, use Fortune on the inner and outer corners and then blend them together along the crease so that they meet there in the middle
  5. Use Fortune again along the lower lash line
  6. To darken up the edge of the outer corner, use Gallop and blend out
  7. Using your finger, put Story in the middle of your eyelid and the middle of your lower lash line – this really adds to the Wow Effect!

As you can probably tell, I am a little bit in love with this palette. I love the range of shades to suit all skin tones and eye colours. There are endless looks to be created with it. The colour pay off and pigmentation is fantastic – particularly in the shimmer shades like Story. I’m wearing this eye look now and it hasn’t moved all day. I do use an eye primer, but it hasn’t dropped down below my eyes or moved into my crease. I am very impressed for a palette that costs only £7.99.

You can purchase this palette from TAMbeauty, but be quick as it does keep going out of stock very quickly! As I write this, there is only 1 left! Here’s the link to buy – Unicorn Love Palette.

Transforme UK – Biotin For Hair, Skin and Nails

Before pregnancy my hair was as strong and long as a pony’s mane, my nails were as sharp as daggers and my skin, well that wasn’t too different to the average girl – hormonally challenged, sometimes dry, sometimes oily. Since having Baby J, my hair is weaker and my nails snap at the word ‘Boo’! When I was offered some Biotin supplements to try by Transforme, I couldn’t say no!

These supplements are for the improvement in the condition of your hair, skin and nails and contain coconut oil (as you all know by now – my fave thing ever!). You receive 360 capsules in a bottle (almost a year’s worth!) and you take just one a day.

These little drops of sunshine contain ingredients that not only promote hair growth they also strengthen hair and reduce hair loss! The ingredient Biotin is also known as B7 and has many health and beauty benefits for both men and women.

Some more benefits are explained in this Transforme video below:

Transforme are a UK based, family-run business and trusted brand for over 15 years. They sell first class products that are exceptional quality and excellent value for money – often 80% cheaper than high street retailers. They also sell supplements and minerals, vitamins, natural beauty products and health packs. You can search by your condition on their website and find suitable products for you too. Visit the main Transforme site here.

I have been taking the Biotin For hair, Skin and Nails supplements for over two weeks now and have been amazed with the results. My skin is really clear, just the odd (normal) imperfections here and there. I have also noticed a massive difference in my nail strength – I’m enjoying wearing nail varnish again without my nails snapping underneath and chipping the paint. My hair is glossy, thick and feeling stronger than ever – if you don’t believe me give these babies a go yourself! They are £13.99 a bottle  – a brilliant price considering you get almost a year’s worth of supplements. You can purchase them here.

Let me know your results!

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed

Baby J began her weaning journey a couple of months ago now and loved her foods from the start. However, as time has gone on the recipes in our cookbooks have become more bland and not very exciting for her. When I was offered the opportunity to review an exciting collection of weaning recipes, I jumped at the chance! This book is The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed.

Zainab is the UK’s leading expert on flavour-led weaning with aromatic flavours and spices. The concept of flavour-led weaning is preparing your baby for eating more ‘grown up meals’ with the rest of the family, by using the more exciting flavours you may use in your own cooking.

The recipes contain herbs and spices which not only add more flavour to your baby’s food, but also contain added nutrients and health benefits. For example, the recipe for Chewable Teething Sticks contains nutmeg, which has eugenol in it – a natural medicine used to treat toothaches.

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed. (Ebury Press, £14.99)

I use a lot of herbs and spices in my own cooking, so I am reassured now that Baby J will transition from her separate foods onto our family dinners with ease. She has loved the recipes I have cooked for her so far – especially the Zingy Pineapple Chicken! (To be honest, I loved this recipe too!)

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed. (Ebury Press, £14.99)

The aspect of this book which I really like is that Zainab cooked up the concept when failing to find exciting recipes for her own baby daughter, Aaliyah. I worry about Baby J not loving food, or enjoying certain vegetables because the flavours just aren’t very exciting. It is nice to find a book which has had so much thought, love and care put into it from someone who is so passionate about children loving what they eat.

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook is easy to follow with a handy baby ‘age guide’ in each chapter. I find that a lot of weaning books don’t really give you a guide on how old your baby may be when they want to try new textures and tastes, but this one makes it brilliantly clear. Each chapter also has a clear meal planner – very, very handy when it comes to shopping lists!

The book contains over 100 recipes which are easy to follow. Many can be frozen in ice cube trays too. There are also some ‘no cook’ recipes and some meals which can be enjoyed by the whole family. This book really is a gem!

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook is due for release on 2nd March 2017. To purchase the hardback book for yourself, click here.

Fun Valentine’s Day Makeup

Yay, I’m so excited about this one! Baby J had a long nap this afternoon, so instead of cleaning, doing the washing, blah, etc. I played around with my makeup collection! I’ve been planning a Valentine’s look for a couple of weeks and I really hope you like it. It’s quite OTT in some places, but you can use what you want from it. I took a no makeup selfie to start with, for a bit of ‘before and after’.

I haven’t gone into detail over my whole face prep, as I’ve done that before in my Christmas look and it hasn’t really changed much since then. I’ve taken a photo of everything I used and here is the list –

  • Soap & Glory Speed Plump Moisturiser
  • Carmex lip balm
  • L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oreal True Match Concelaer in Vanilla
  • MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as an eye primer
  • Collection Precision Contour
  •  Collection Eyebrow Definer
  • PS… Pro HD Mascara

I have put the focus of this post onto my eye makeup, as it’s the statement part of the whole look. For eyeshadow I used the amazing Makeup Revolution 144 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette Collection 2017 (an amazing £10!) I’ve written about it before here.

I’ve taken step-by-step photos as I feel it’s easier to show you what I did, you can also see what brushes I used for each part of the eye, they’re from the Spectrum Eye Blending Set.

  1. I applied a peachy nude to my whole lid and up to the brow bone

2. A light pink in my crease

3. I went over the crease again with this darker pink shade

4. The darkest pink in that column was then applied to my outer corners

5. I used the neon pink as a liner on half of my under eyes

6. I then used the bright lilac on the other half of my under eye and blended them together for a gradient effect

7. I used a bright, shimmery, light pink on the centre of my lids

8. I completed the work with the shadows by applying Unicorns Heart highlighter – the pink shade – to the inner corners to make my eyes pop!

Here’s how it looked when they eye shadow process was complete –

To make the look fun and unique, I applied The Sparkles Store Valentine’s Mix loose glitter to my inner corners and then picked out the cute little hearts and stuck them with glitter fixing glue on my outer brow bone.

Now for the lashes! These are called #Sexy and are from Beauty Atelier Shop. You can purchase them here. You can also use this code – KER 10 – for free shipping, woohoo! The eyelashes are handmade and 100% silk. They are so comfortable to wear and create an instant car eye look! Beauty Atelier Shop also have other amazing and exclusive items that you need to check out. I will be uploading a video about some of their products in the next few days.

For highlight, I used Glitter Eyes highlight in the shade ThatGlo. My blush is from a palette in the Makeup Revolution 12 Days of Christmas box.

And finally…lips. I used the awesome Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matt Lip Kit in Echelon .

And there we have it! I’m so pleased with the final result! Unfortunately, my camera didn’t pick up the prettiness of the highlighter, it has an iridescent pink shimmer in certain lights. Believe me when I say that it’s beautiful.

What will you be doing on Valentine’s Day?

Happy Valentine’s Day 2017 Sparkle with Kerry readers! Love you all!

Christmas Party Makeup

Oh my goodness, Christmas is only six days away! It’s extra exciting for us this year because we have Baby J in our lives. She has no idea what’s going on, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited, right?!

We had a Christmas party this weekend which meant, woohoo, time to spend time on my makeup! I took photos of all the products I used and selfies at different steps of the process. I hope you like my mini tutorial!

Here’s my before photo (please excuse my monstrous eyebrows!) –

Prepping My Face

Eye Makeup

  • I firstly primed my eyes with the Mac Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in the shade ‘Painterly’. This stuff is amazing! It perfectly matches the skin on the eyelid and disguises any veins or discolouration and keeps your eyeshadow in place at the same time!
  • For my eyeshadow I used the Too Faced Nikkie Tutorials ‘The Power of Makeup Palette’. I used the shades as follows –
    • Irresistible (Gold) in the inner corners
    • Frosted Yum (Silver) on the rest of the lid
    • Wanted (Black) on the outer corners, forming a mini cat eye
  • Over the top of Frosted Yum I used the Too Faced glitter pot which came with the Nikkie Tutorials palette. I picked the glitter up on my brush using a bit of primer as ‘glue’

  • Now for the really exciting part! Over the gold shade – Irresistible – I used some large glitter from my Dust & Dance pot of gold glitter. Once again I used primer as a ‘glue’.

Fixing and Baking!

  • To fix my foundation I used the L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder
  • To bake my under eye, I used the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Loose Powder. If you’re unsure of what baking is – it is where you leave a powder on under the eyes for at least ten minutes to set. This will stop under eye creases in your foundation and concealer and will also brighten, depending on what powder you use. You can also do this over your nose and in other areas you wish to brighten.

Contour, Blush and Highlight

  • I contoured with the shade Chocolate Soleil from the Nikkie Tutorials palette
  • Blush was the rose gold shade from the top row of the Makeup Revolution Pro Blush Palette in Golden Sugar

I decided not to go with glitter lips, as I felt it may be sparkle overload! I went with a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in the shade Moon (and no, it’s not a real one, its a brilliant dupe from eBay!)

And this is the finished look! What do you think? I felt so glamorous and got lots of compliments on the inner corner eye glitter.

Here’s the before and after side-by-side –

Thank you for reading my tutorial, I’d love to know if you have a go yourself, or take any ideas from my look. Please send photos, I love them! Or you can alternatively tag me in them on Instagram – @sparkle.with.kerry

Mum’s Christmas Makeup Look

When my Mum asked me to have a go at her makeup, I felt so excited! She’s the perfect person to practice the skills I’ve been studying on my Makeup Artistry course. I had to bear a few things in mind whilst I made my plan –

  • This is a Christmas party look, so it had to have a bit of classy sparkle somewhere!
  • Mum has green eyes, so I checked the colour wheel to see which colours complimented this and went for purples and burgundies.
  • Mum is a bit older than me, so really won’t appreciate unicorn highlighter and false eyelashes!
  • I asked Mum to bring her own foundation so that it was a perfect match for her skin tone and type.

After going through the plan with Mum, we decided not to use the Grav3yard Girl Swamp Queen Palette shade ‘Mancat’ as I previously planned, and opted for NYX Single Shadow in ‘Addiction’ instead as it had a bit more shimmer to it and a dramatic look.

Here is Mum’s before photo –

We began by cleansing, toning, moisturising and finally priming the skin.

MoisturiserBio Extracts Light Face Cream mixed with the Glow Booster

Primer – Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Next was foundation, Max Factor Colour Adapt in 70 Natural (Mum’s own) –

My favourite part now! I used the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer on Mum’s eyes and got to work on the eyeshadow look I’d planned for her.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette –

  1. Peaches n’ Cream all over the lid and brow bone
  2. Georgia over the lid
  3. Bellini in the centre of the lid
  4. Luscious in inner corner
  5. Peach Pit along lower lash line

NYX Hot Singles Shadow in Shade ‘Addiction’ in outer half of lid. I concealed under the eyes with the Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer.

Next up, brows! I was particularly pleased with this as I think they changed Mum’s face completely! I used the Collection Eyebrow Define in Blonde.

I used the Collection Precision Contouring Stick just under Mum’s cheekbones. I didn’t want to go overboard on this because I think Mum has a lovely bone structure, without me having to cut it even more with contour. I also used Makeup Revolution’s Golden Sugar Blush Palette on the apples of the cheeks in the third shade along the top row. To add a subtle highlight, I applied the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in shade 001 Light.

The combination is gorgeous, don’t you think?

Now onto the lips, I wanted a subtle purple colour to make Mum’s eyes pop even more. We went for the Lancome Juicy Shaker in Berry in Love (smells delicious too!).

To complete the look, Mum applied her own mascara. Mum absolutely loves the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, she says she doesn’t get panda eyes with it and it stays on all day. Definitely one I want to have a go with!

Here is the completed look! Ta Dah!

Doesn’t she look beautiful? I’m so pleased with how everything came out and Mum was happy too! Mum’s eyes definitely look greener and larger and she’s definietly ready to party at Christmas!

Baby Sensory Treasure Basket

Last week my friend Emily and I took our baby girls to a first-time parenting class. There we were told about different ways to play with your baby. We were shown gorgeous sensory treasure baskets, which contained everyday items you can find around your home.

The idea of the treasure basket was created by Elinor Goldschmied, a child psychologist. They are excellent for stimulating brain development in babies and help encourage independence in children.

That night I went online and found a lady and her daughter who make and sell these baskets. I ordered one straight away because I just knew my baby J would love one.

Here’s what I received –

It contains various items like a wooden spoon, fabric, a photo album, metal egg cup, ball, scrunchie, etc.

Today I set up a play area for J and sat her on it with the basket. The TV was switched off and the room free from distractions.

A quick note – please ignore some of the blurriness in the photos, my baby is way too fast for me to catch her on camera sometimes!

I held the items up for her to look at and then held the basket near her so she could pull one out. She’s only three and a half months old, so her hand-eye coordination isn’t quite there yet.

J picked out the wooden spoon first and loved chewing on it. She’s beginning to teeth, so it must have felt lovely on her gums.

Next was the feather. I ran it over J’s face and she pulled the cutest little faces! She tried to grab it with her hands and it made her smile a lot.The colour of it caught her eye from the start.

With most of the items, J enjoyed putting them in her mouth!

This metal egg cup was also popular. I tapped it with the wooden spoon for a reverberating chime sound. J was really intrigued by this and wanted to hold the cup herself.

Here are a few more objects J enjoyed holding/chewing/playing with –

All in all I highly recommend organising a baby sensory treasure basket for your little one. You can always put one together yourself, or buy one here.

How do you play with your baby? Did you enjoy my first parenting post? Let me know!
