Barry M Meteor Storm Eyeshadow Palette | Review and Swatches

I swatched this palette months ago in store and instantly fell in love. I didn’t buy it at the time because it was sold out and has been ever since. I couldn’t buy it on Superdrug online either. This week in Boots however, I was pleasantly surprised to see some on the shelves! I also had enough points to buy the palette which is £9.99. Who doesn’t love a freebie?

The Barry M Meteor Storm palette contains eight metallic and duochrome shades – all stunningly unique and like nothing I already own. The more I get to know this palette the more amazed I am with the quality and its beauty.

The packaging is a simple cardboard box with a magnetic closing and a mirror inside. It is extremely lightweight and portable.

I swatched each shade lightly on the back of my hand.

The first four shades swatched in natural light
The final four shades swatched in natural light

The colours swatched beautifully and the pigment was impressive. I said an ‘Ooo’ with each one, it was like I was watching a fireworks display! The duochrome shades are especially eye catching as they’re so unique. They look amazing on the eyes too and stayed put all day.

The only downfall to the palette (for some people), is that there is no matte shade to use as a transition shade. This didn’t bother me in particular because I have so many palettes each with a decent enough shade for this purpose. To be honest, it’s nice to have a palette completely dedicated to metallic and duochromes – who wants a boring matte chucked in there too in place of a more unique colour?

Overall I absolutely love this palette and I’m so glad I managed to get myself one. I’ll be sharing my looks over on Instagram, so keep your eyes peeled. I would say that these eyeshadows work best and are way more intense when you apply them with your finger or a wet brush.

Barry M Fall in Love Eyeshadow Palette | Review and Swatches

When Anastasia Beverley Hills released the Subculture eyeshadow palette last month, I became slightly addicted to watching YouTube reviews. The bottom line with that palette was that the shadows are super pigmented, but so hard to work with and very, very crumbly. As much as I loved the shades inside, there was no way I was going to fork out a ridiculous amount of money for a palette with problems. You can understand my excitement and intrigue then when Barry M took over Superdrug’s Instagram account on Friday and they posted a photo of this baby. One of my besties actually tagged me in the post and said how it was a good Subculture dupe. I had to agree with her there!

Now believe me when I say, I have a hell of a lot of eyeshadow palettes and I can honestly say that I don’t have any that contain a gorgeous mustard shade like this one does. That mustard shade was my biggest temptation in my decision making about buying this palette. Mustard tones go beautifully with blue eyes and it was something I really wanted to experiment with.

Fall in Love comes in an Autumnal themed cardboard box. I like the simplicity of the palette and I also like its size. It is very travel friendly and fits comfortably into your hand. Inside the magnetic lid is a mirror – excellent stuff! There are 10 matte shades of both warm and cool tones.

I managed to pick up the palette in my local Superdrug and as soon as I got home I swatched the eyeshadows. To be honest, I was a bit worried that this was going to be a disappointing palette after doing these swatches as the colour pay off just wasn’t at all impressive from some of the shades.

As you can see from the photo, the lightest shades barely show on my skin. They were definitely the hardest to swatch.

This morning, I finally got the chance to experiment with the palette and use that mustard coloured shade that I’ve been dying to use. Oh my goodness, I was not disappointed! The deeper shades in this palette are STUNNING! They are so super pigmented and so easy to blend. There is some kick back and fall out, but I would expect this from such pigmented shadows. I would highly recommend this palette to beginners and experts as the colours are unique but easy to work with. I’m in love with this palette – what a brilliant start to my Autumn!

To create this eye look I used the beige/mauve colour in my crease. I then deepened the crease using the orangey brown on the top row. On the inner part of my lid I used the coveted mustard yellow and on the outer half I used the cranberry red. Along my lower lash line I used the orangey brown and cranberry red together.

To buy this palette for yourself check out your local Superdrug, or buy it online here.

Favourites | April 2017

Hello and welcome to a new series on my blog! Here I will be rounding up my monthly favourites from the previous month. April was a busy one for me in terms of trying out new products – I received some new things for my birthday and was also sent a few little PR packages. I hope you enjoy this roundup – let me know your favourites from April too – I love discovering new things!

BH Cosmetics Shaaanxo 18 Colour Eyeshadow and Lipstick Palette

My husband bought me this beautiful eyeshadow and lipstick combo palette from BH Cosmetics and Shaaanxo. Shaaanxo is one of my favourite beauty gurus from YouTube and if you haven’t already, you should definitely check her out – her tutorials are incredible!

The palette contains 9 eyeshadows (3 matte and 6 shimmer) and 9 stunning lipstick colours. I am just in love with this palette – it’s perfect for everyday wear and the pigmentation on the shadows is incredible. The palette is an amazing price on too – just £18.00 with free delivery. I highly recommend this one. You can buy your own here.

100% Natural Australian Jojoba Oil

This was another birthday gift from my lovely husband. I had been after some of this oil for a while as I heard that it does wonderful things for your skin. As the only plant in the world known to produce a wax similar to our own skin’s sebum, it is able to penetrate deep into the skin.  It also contains powerful antioxidants, Omega 6 & 9 essential fatty acids, and Vitamin A, D and E. I use it on my face every other evening and I can’t believe the effect is has had already, in just a matter of weeks. It has reduced redness on my cheeks, I have had less breakouts on my chin and forehead and my skin is just amazingly smooth and soft. I’m so impressed! I know that my husband purchased this from Holland and Barrett, but you can pick one up online here.

SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara

As I am currently on unpaid maternity leave, money is pretty much non-existent. So when I ran out of mascara, I desperately searched the web for a good and cheaper alternative. I came across a few reviews of this SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD mascara and I have to agree with the good ratings. I have very short and stumpy lashes, so I’m always looking for a mascara that will add length to the lashes, without weighing them down. This one separates my lashes and makes them extra long. I’ll use it in a tutorial soon! You can buy yours here.

I Heart Makeup Blushing Hearts – Goddess of Love Highlighter

I cannot stop wearing this highlighter. It is so beautiful. It’s gold with a peachy/pink reflect. It is very pigmented and a little goes a long way. You get 10g of product, which will last you a long time. Once again, this product is available at my favourite beauty website – TAM Beauty here. You can also purchase it at Superdrug.

Makeup Revolution Duo Brow Pencil Light Brown

I always prefer to draw on my eyebrows with a pencil and was excited to try this Makeup Revolution one. I got it in the shade light brown, which is actually a perfect match for me. I really like that it has a little spooly brush on the end. It’s always good to start your eyebrow routine the right way by brushing your brows into place. Once again, this pencil has excellent pigmentation and very little product is needed on each eyebrow. Buy yours here.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt & Contour Kit – Ultra Fair C01

Oh my goodness, this little kit is fantastic! It is just £3 and for this you get a lot of pigment for your money! The kit contains a bronzer, highlighter and blush. I originally bought this for the blush, which is pink with a stunning peach reflect. It really warms up the skin and gives a healthy glow. However, I have also been reaching for the bronzer everyday as it’s a gorgeous tone on my skin. And now for the highlighter… It’s blinding! I think it is actually one of the most pigmented and stunning highlighters in my whole collection (and I own a lot of them!). Buy yours here

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick Vow

These new lipsticks from Makeup Revolution really remind me of the Charlotte Tilbury ones, but are a fraction of the price at £4. They are velvety soft and glide onto the lips. I have it in the shade Vow, which is a brown nude. This is very long wearing and I find it to be nourishing on my lips. I’m hoping to buy a couple more shades from the range in the future. Buy yours here.

Oh K! Sweet Peach Detangle BrushOh K! Sweet Peach Detangle Brush

This cute little detangling brush was from my sister, on my birthday. It smells like peaches! It is so adorable and just shows how well my sister really knows me – I love anything with a cute, happy face on it! It also does a good job of detangling my crazy hair too. I love it!  Buy one for yourself here.

Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Pose – Best Lip Kit Yet?

I’ve seen a few comments online about these new lip kits by Barry M and was intrigued enough to give them a go. Lip kits have been made popular by, you guessed it, Kylie Jenner (does that girl influence everything we do now?!) and there have been a few, more affordable dupes appearing recently.

Last month I reviewed the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Echelon and thought it was pretty good. However, the more I’ve worn it, the more I’ve disliked it. The formula is pretty terrible. Don’t get me wrong, I love the colour and the lip pencil, but the liquid lipstick itself goes very tacky and grainy and never seems to fully dry. I watched a YouTube video the other day and it was said that these lip kits by Barry M are much, much better and I just had to see for myself!

Inside the kit you get a lip pencil and a liquid lipstick.

Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Pencil Swatch

Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit Pencil all over the lips

The lip pencil is amazingly creamy and easy to apply. The colour is quite different to the liquid lipstick, so I wouldn’t recommend using it to over-line your lips. I used it under the lipstick itself to increase the wear time.

Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Pose Swatches

I love the liquid lipstick colour so much! It takes a while to dry and is very runny (be careful! I spilt the tester version all over the floor in my local Boots! 🙈) but once it dries it is beautiful!

Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Pose

This formula really lasts too! It stays on all day and is just so smooth looking. I’m so impressed. This is my favourite lip kit so far – I’d say even better than the Kylie ones!

They are also a fraction of the price of the Kylie kits at only £6.99. There are currently three shades, but Barry M do also sell matte liquid lipsticks on their own and there are quite a few shades available. To buy your own kit from Boots, click here

What’s in my Superpeach ‘Carol’ Makeup Bag?

Happy Wednesday everyone! I have another exciting item from Superpeach to share with you today and it’s the Carol Makeup Bag.

Isn’t it the cutest? This bag is shaped like a giant pink fish with the added quirkiness of flappable blue fins! There are lots of makeup bags to choose from on the Superpeach site – find them here – but I chose this cutie because well, I love the weird and the wonderful! If you’d like to save a bit of money on a purchase from the site – makeup bag or otherwise – read on for my personal discount code especially for you!

When you open the bag right up, you can see the fish’s rib cage! Another funny little touch to this already endearing design.

Ever since becoming a mummy, my life has been Go! Go! Go! I always carry a little bit of makeup around with me, just in case I don’t have time to do my makeup before I go out, or if I need a top-up during the day. I thought you’d enjoy seeing what I carry around with me, so here goes!

Makeup revolution Pro Go Mini Brush Set

These brushes are very soft. They have a rose gold metal and pinky/cream coloured brush handle. In the set you get –

  • Mini foundation brush for use with liquid concealer
  • Mini Face brush to apply powder and touch-ups throughout the day
  • Mini Eyeshadow brush to touch-up or reapply eyeshadow
  • Mini Angled brush for eyeliner or brows

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch

Touche Eclat is a must-have item for your makeup bag. Some people mistakenly use this as a concealer, but it’s much better than that, it is actually better used as an instant brightener for any areas lacking radiance. Use around the eye area, along the bridge of the nose, the brow bone and Cupid’s bow.

Also pictured is the PS… high Shine Lipstick Crayon. You can read my review of that here.

Miller Harris Rose Silence Eau de Parfum

This perfume smells beautiful! The tagline reads – ‘For the intimist. A personal, reflective Sunday morning moment.’, which I feel sums the fragrance up perfectly. It has a lovely summer rose garden smell, with undertones of sandalwood and patchouli. It’s the perfect little bottle size to carry around with me.

Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream

This stuff really is magic! I burnt myself cooking a couple of weeks ago, and put this straight on the burn – it eased the pain quickly and I seemed to heal up much quicker than I normally would. It’s also perfect to use on Baby J’s skin – there are no nasties in it and is fragrance free.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24Hour Eyeshadow

I have this little pot of prettiness in the shade Pink Gold. It does what it says on the tin and does stay put all day. I normally can’t stand cream eyeshadows because they crease up on my eyelids throughout the day and wander off my face, but this one really doesn’t do that. It’s so easy to apply (if you’re naughty, you can even do it with your finger!) and it looks effortlessly beautiful. I can’t praise this product enough!

Barry M Radiant Rod Highlighter

This is a quick and easy highlighter to apply. Great for when you’re in a rush, but still want to look like a golden goddess! Apply to the usual areas, that need a bit of glow.

Benefit Posie Tint Lip and Cheek Stain

This tint is a lovely, fresh pink colour which I use as a quick blush. It can also be used on the lips, but I find it to be quite drying (I’m so sensitive!). It’s a teeny, tiny bottle, so it fits wonderfully in my bag.

And there we have it, my makeup bag has been exposed for you all to see. I haven’t included my foundation but it’s the L’Oréal True Match Foundation, which I’m ALWAYS banging on about! It really is the best. My mascara is the Soap & Glory Thick & Fast HD Mascara High Definition Collagen Coat.

If you’re on the hunt for a new makeup bag, there are plenty to choose from on the Superpeach website. Unfortunately, the Carol bag is currently sold out, but there are other fish bags to choose from. To buy a bag, just click here to visit the website. Superpeach does also have a Valentine’s section at the moment, if you’re looking for that extra special gift for a loved one. They also have a new Stationery department, with just too many beautiful things to choose from! If you’d like to save an amazing 20% off, then use this discount code – sparklewithkerry20 (expires 22/2/2017) at the checkout.

How to: The Perfect Nude Ombré Lips Using NYX Lip Lingerie and Barry M Lip Liner

I was excited to give nude ombre lips a go as I have a nice little collection of nude matte lipsticks now. (I also have ombre hair and want to match my lips to it – so cool!)

For this look I used:

  • Barry M Lip Liner – 17 Blush
  • NYX Lip Lingerie – Bedtime Flirt
  • NYX Lip Lingerie – Push-Up

The key to achieving this look is to blend, blend, blend! At each stage, gently rub your lips together to blend the colours together, eliminating any harsh lines for a more natural look.
I began by lightly brushing some of my foundation over my lips for a smoother base to work with.

Next I lined my lips with Barry M Lip Liner in 17 Blush. I then filled it in slightly.

I next applied the lighter colour of NYX Lip Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt to the inner parts of my lips. You can already see the ombre beginning to take shape! Remember to blend now

The final step is to apply NYX Lip Lingerie in Push-Up to the centre of the lips and blend again. Here’s what it looks like when complete –

What do you think of the ombre Lip trend? Have you had a go before and do you have a photo to share?
