As mentioned in my Obsessive Eyes Eyeshadow Palette review, Obsession have released some beautiful new products recently and so far I’m very impressed. Straight up – this highlighter palette is no exception. Stunning being the word for it.
The palette is a decent size and is a metal tin (which I love). It has a marble design, which matches the eyeshadow and contour palettes. Inside the tin is a huuuuge mirror and eight beautiful highlighters.
I love the fact that this palette caters for all skin tones – from the very light to very deep. If you think some of the shades are unwearable as a highlight, remember you can use them as eyeshadows too.
The highlighters themselves are baked and are very soft to the touch. They are a finely milled powder which gives them that ‘wet-look’ on the skin. They don’t show up any skin texture either which is what you want from a highlighter.
The question I’ve been asking myself for the last few days is – is this my new favourite highlight palette? It does produce everything I want from a highlighter and the shades themselves are just stunning – peachy/golds, whites, bronzes, and pure gold – pure perfection! This palette is definitely up there with my BH Cosmetics Spotlight Glow.
The Obsession Obsessive Eyes Eyeshadow Palette comes in a really cool, dark midnight marble printed tin and is actually a pretty decent size. Inside is a HUGE mirror and 24 beautifully complimentary eyeshadows. The top row are the mattes, the bottom row the shimmers, merged and baked shades. I love the layout of the eyeshadows – sleek, slim-lined pans each with a trendy name printed below it. Yep, I just said trendy (I’m 31 next month, give me a break!).
There are plenty of colours here to create dramatic warm toned looks and the shimmers are pretty enough to wear alone during the day. You literally don’t need another eyeshadow palette when you have this one. There are awesome base setting colours, transition and gradient shades, smokey eye shadows and inner corner glows. The possibilities are endless with this one! Does it not just get you excited? Or is that just me?
To swatch, I used my finger and ran it up and down the pan once and then swatched down my arm. I did the matte shades on the top row first, in natural light.
The mattes were really interesting to swatch actually. I began with the neutral, light shades and wasn’t really blown away by what I was seeing but as the swatching went on, the colours got more intense, more buttery and more beautiful! I was particularly amazed by the shade ‘Rebound’ – a beautiful cherry red which had some of the best pigment I’ve seen in an eyeshadow of that colour.
I next swatched the shimmers and baked eyeshadows in the same way.
I had to swatch them six shades at a time because well, I couldn’t believe how gorgeous each eyeshadow was in its own right. Not one of them was a let down or disappointment. Each one packed a punch and just looked stunning. Each one pairs with at least one matte (usually the one above it in the palette) so it is super simple to create a quick eye look.
I’m sure you can tell from what I’ve written above that I already absolutely adore this palette. I can tell it’s going to be a staple in my makeup artist kit as it gives me everything I need in an eyeshadow palette. I may need to buy a second as a back up!
If you don’t know who Obsession are, then let me fill you in. They are a sister brand of Makeup Revolution and they have just launched a bunch of gorgeous new products designed for people from all walks of life. Like Makeup Revolution, Obsession are extremely affordable but still high quality. I got myself a few new bits from the range, including this lip kit.
Inside the pretty, marble design box is a lip pencil and a liquid matte lipstick. I went for the shade ‘Strip Tease’ as I like the mauve/pink undertones in the gorgeous nude shade.
The lip pencil is slightly darker than the liquid lipstick, so I have been using it when I want to deepen up the colour slightly. I don’t use the lip pencil every time as I find the lipstick performs perfectly fine without it anyway. The lip pencil also looks great on its own.
The lipstick dries down nice and quickly and is very light-weight on the lips. I didn’t find it drying either, which is always a bonus in these winter months. The doe foot applicator makes application easy and smooth.
In the picture above, I’m wearing both the pencil and the lipstick and I’m really loving the colour. It’s like ‘my lips but better’ and really smooths them out. I don’t find that it sinks into lines either. I wore this on a night out with a friend and it stayed put through dinner, drinks and dancing – win!

You may have read my pretty moody review of one of Maybelline’s latest releases – the Master Holographic Prismatic Highlighter (and if not, click here) and there I mentioned I’d also picked up the Master Chrome in a Superdrug deal. Thankfully, this review won’t be anywhere near as angry because this time round, I’m pretty pleased with my purchase.
This gorgeous little highlighter was doing the rounds on many a US YouTuber’s channel but took a lifetime to appear in the UK. When it finally arrived in Superdrug, I was excited to see if it would live up to my expectations and its amazing reviews from overseas. As you know, I hated the Master Holographic which arrived in the same package, so the need to enjoy this highlighter was pretty high!
I adore the pattern pressed into the powder itself – geometric lines are just so aesthetically pleasing! The colour, on first glance, looked pretty intimidating for my fair/medium skin and I was worried it would make my cheeks look bruised on application but it actually sits pretty well. It’s a very flattering gold which I feel works well on most skin tones (but maybe not the super pale).
The powder itself is finely milled and not full of microglitter (like its ugly sister) and blends out beautifully. It is a very bold highlighter – not one for those of you who love a subtle glow! It builds well and sits still on the skin all day.
Phew – well that’s a relief! My faith has been restored in Maybelline – what a gorgeous little offering this highlighter is! I believe there is a pinky toned one coming/already here – but I am yet to find it. I’ll definitely let you know my thoughts when I am able to get one.

I swatched this palette months ago in store and instantly fell in love. I didn’t buy it at the time because it was sold out and has been ever since. I couldn’t buy it on Superdrug online either. This week in Boots however, I was pleasantly surprised to see some on the shelves! I also had enough points to buy the palette which is £9.99. Who doesn’t love a freebie?
The Barry M Meteor Storm palette contains eight metallic and duochrome shades – all stunningly unique and like nothing I already own. The more I get to know this palette the more amazed I am with the quality and its beauty.
The packaging is a simple cardboard box with a magnetic closing and a mirror inside. It is extremely lightweight and portable.
I swatched each shade lightly on the back of my hand.
The colours swatched beautifully and the pigment was impressive. I said an ‘Ooo’ with each one, it was like I was watching a fireworks display! The duochrome shades are especially eye catching as they’re so unique. They look amazing on the eyes too and stayed put all day.
The only downfall to the palette (for some people), is that there is no matte shade to use as a transition shade. This didn’t bother me in particular because I have so many palettes each with a decent enough shade for this purpose. To be honest, it’s nice to have a palette completely dedicated to metallic and duochromes – who wants a boring matte chucked in there too in place of a more unique colour?
Overall I absolutely love this palette and I’m so glad I managed to get myself one. I’ll be sharing my looks over on Instagram, so keep your eyes peeled. I would say that these eyeshadows work best and are way more intense when you apply them with your finger or a wet brush.
I’ve seen a few comments online about these new lip kits by Barry M and was intrigued enough to give them a go. Lip kits have been made popular by, you guessed it, Kylie Jenner (does that girl influence everything we do now?!) and there have been a few, more affordable dupes appearing recently.
Last month I reviewed the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Echelon and thought it was pretty good. However, the more I’ve worn it, the more I’ve disliked it. The formula is pretty terrible. Don’t get me wrong, I love the colour and the lip pencil, but the liquid lipstick itself goes very tacky and grainy and never seems to fully dry. I watched a YouTube video the other day and it was said that these lip kits by Barry M are much, much better and I just had to see for myself!
Inside the kit you get a lip pencil and a liquid lipstick.
The lip pencil is amazingly creamy and easy to apply. The colour is quite different to the liquid lipstick, so I wouldn’t recommend using it to over-line your lips. I used it under the lipstick itself to increase the wear time.
I love the liquid lipstick colour so much! It takes a while to dry and is very runny (be careful! I spilt the tester version all over the floor in my local Boots! 🙈) but once it dries it is beautiful!
This formula really lasts too! It stays on all day and is just so smooth looking. I’m so impressed. This is my favourite lip kit so far – I’d say even better than the Kylie ones!
They are also a fraction of the price of the Kylie kits at only £6.99. There are currently three shades, but Barry M do also sell matte liquid lipsticks on their own and there are quite a few shades available. To buy your own kit from Boots, click here.
These Spectrum brushes were from my husband. I like this brand because the brushes are fantastic quality, beautiful to look at and are also cruelty free. There are brushes here for every possible eye makeup look.
I purchased this palette myself with money from my Nana. It’s something I’ve been after for a long time. There are 35 shades which are all matte. I wanted a palette without shimmery shades for a more sophisticated look. The shades range from browns, to purples to greys and blacks.
I used the palette on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Here’s how I styled it out on Christmas Eve –
These gorgeous brushes were from my lovely friend Natasha. I just love the rainbow effect on the metals below the bristles. Natasha knows me so well and knows how much I love my makeup! These will come in very handy. They’re beautifully soft.
This was one of my gifts from Mum and Dad. It has a gorgeous, zingy fragrance which I’ve become a bit addicted to! This perfume has top notes of citrus fruits, chilled vodka and tomato leaves – a beautiful combination!
This little beauty was also from my husband. As you know from previous posts, I absolutely love Makeup Revolution and have been very keen to get my hands on this beautiful box of goodies. Luckily, my husband listens to me!
This box contains 12 gorgeous makeup products – 1x Eye Primer, 1x Aqua Priming Base, 1x Strobe Cream, 1x Lipgloss Set, 1x Pro Go Mini Brush Set, 1x Pro Fixing Spray, 1x Blush Palette, 1x Strobe Palette, 1x Brow Palette & 3x Eyeshadow Palettes
If you’d like me to do a separate post which goes into more detail about the products in this set, then please let me know.
Oh my goodness, Christmas is only six days away! It’s extra exciting for us this year because we have Baby J in our lives. She has no idea what’s going on, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited, right?!
We had a Christmas party this weekend which meant, woohoo, time to spend time on my makeup! I took photos of all the products I used and selfies at different steps of the process. I hope you like my mini tutorial!
Here’s my before photo (please excuse my monstrous eyebrows!) –
Foundation – L’Oreal True Match Foundation in the shade Vanilla Rose. This is my favourite foundation by miles, it’s perfect for my skin type and tone and is so easy to apply. I highly recommend this one!
I firstly primed my eyes with the Mac Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in the shade ‘Painterly’. This stuff is amazing! It perfectly matches the skin on the eyelid and disguises any veins or discolouration and keeps your eyeshadow in place at the same time!
For my eyeshadow I used the Too Faced Nikkie Tutorials ‘The Power of Makeup Palette’. I used the shades as follows –
Irresistible (Gold) in the inner corners
Frosted Yum (Silver) on the rest of the lid
Wanted (Black) on the outer corners, forming a mini cat eye
Over the top of Frosted Yum I used the Too Faced glitter pot which came with the Nikkie Tutorials palette. I picked the glitter up on my brush using a bit of primer as ‘glue’
Now for the really exciting part! Over the gold shade – Irresistible – I used some large glitter from my Dust & Dance pot of gold glitter. Once again I used primer as a ‘glue’.
To fix my foundation I used the L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder
To bake my under eye, I used the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Loose Powder. If you’re unsure of what baking is – it is where you leave a powder on under the eyes for at least ten minutes to set. This will stop under eye creases in your foundation and concealer and will also brighten, depending on what powder you use. You can also do this over your nose and in other areas you wish to brighten.
Contour, Blush and Highlight
I contoured with the shade Chocolate Soleil from the Nikkie Tutorials palette
I decided not to go with glitter lips, as I felt it may be sparkle overload! I went with a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in the shade Moon (and no, it’s not a real one, its a brilliant dupe from eBay!)
And this is the finished look! What do you think? I felt so glamorous and got lots of compliments on the inner corner eye glitter.
Here’s the before and after side-by-side –
Thank you for reading my tutorial, I’d love to know if you have a go yourself, or take any ideas from my look. Please send photos, I love them! Or you can alternatively tag me in them on Instagram – @sparkle.with.kerry
If there was one gift I wanted for myself from the Boots Gift Guide, it was the Zoella Lifestyle – On My Travels Back Pack. As soon as I saw it in store, I fell in love. Luckily for me, I have a very kind husband who bought me one this week!
As you can see, the bag is gorgeous. It’s perfect for a mum of a young baby like myself, as her changing bag just isn’t enough! It is quite large, so will easily fit my tablet, notebook and any other ‘stuff’ I accumulate over the weeks! The bag has a beautiful neon orange lining, which goes really nicely with the grey of the bag.
You also receive this motivational keyring which is a rose gold coloured metal with soft neon orange lettering.
This travel mug is also included – another essential for me and my walks with the pram! It has a gorgeous marble effect design and rose gold lettering. Once again, the neon orange colour scheme is carried through on the lid.
These pencils are super cool and look so great in the box that I didn’t want to remove them! I’m loving the ombre effect using the orange of the pencils. Each pencil has a little phrase written on it, like ‘Hugs & Kisses’. I’m a total stationery addict, so these pencils made me very happy.
The bag was a Boots Star Buy but is now back up for £50. You can purchase the bag in store or online here.
There are more gorgeous items in the Zoella Lifestyle range, including candles and cosy socks. Will you be purchasing any?
The Maybelline Master Strobing Stick has been making many an appearance on my Facebook newsfeed over the last couple of weeks. Maybelline have used a simple, but effective advertising campaign of short video clips of the product in use on a beautiful model’s face moving under the light.
After being sucked in by the clever promotions, I purchased the product with my Boots Advantage Card points (don’t we just love beauty freebies?!) and gave it a go today. I have a meal out with work colleagues tonight, so it is the perfect opportunity to road test the stick.
The product contains micro fine pearls which accentuate glow. It glides on very easily with one stroke and can be blended in quickly with fingers or a beauty blender. This product is perfect alone on the skin for that ‘natural’ dewy look, but also works very well over foundation.
Places to wear the product –
Top of cheekbones
Down the bridge of the nose
Cupids bow (looks amazing with a pinky lipstick!)
The eye area – inner corners of eyes and brow bones
Other highpoints of the face including chin and forehead
Overall I’m very happy with this strobing stick. It’s fuss-free and handy for those days where my skin needs a pick-me-up glow without all the fuss of highlighting powders and brushes. I chose the light version but there is also a medium shade available. You can buy the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick front Boots here.
Have you guys mastered the strobing trend yet? Which products do you use?
