I was sent this fabulous, little cookbook by the publisher – Robinson – and have been enjoying many of the sugar-free recipes inside over the last couple of weeks. Anyone who has tried going sugar-free will know how difficult it can be in a world filled with brightly coloured confectionery and fast food restaurants. This book provides delicious recipes that will make you realise sugar in your home cooking really isn’t needed and really won’t be missed.


The book is split into fifteen chapters, which aim to guide you through your sugar free journey with ease. Chapters include –

Los Antojitos – Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce 


Chilli is my favourite ingredient to add to most of my dishes. I always like to make my meals spicy, whether that be a bolognaise, lasagne, homemade burger or poached eggs on toast! You can imagine my excitement then when I was asked to write about Los Antojitos Scotch Bonnet hot sauce and salts.

PLEASE NOTE – In my highly professional way, I tried the sauce before I took photos of the bottle (I just couldn’t wait!) therefore there is less product in there – it was full!

Los Antojitos are a vegan Mexican food, pop-up catering company based in Manchester. They specialise mostly in Street Tacos and Multi-bean Chili bowls.


The company make their own hand pressed tortillas which they then load up with their yummy Mexican recipes.  These include BBQ Sweet Potato and Red Cabbage slaw, Seitan de Barbecoa Estilo Yucatan and Refried Pinto beans. Los Antojitos make sure to use organic ingredients wherever possible and also authentic ingredients, importing them from Mexico itself.


The sauces and salsas actually have their own cult following and I can see why. This sauce is addictive! I’ve already finished my bottle and I’m waiting for a re-stock so that I can buy myself some more. I was able to try the Scotch Bonnet hot sauce which was very spicy, but deliciously fruity at the same time. I poured it on everything – avocados, sweet potato chips, toast, mushrooms, vegetable patties – everything! The sauces were initially intended just for use in the pop up kitchens, but customers demanded bottles for use at home. The chilli sauces have always been made from scratch because the chefs at Los Antojitos wanted make sure that they knew every ingredient that went into them. Their most popular sauce is this one – the Scotch Bonnet – followed by Arbol and Guajillo.

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed

Baby J began her weaning journey a couple of months ago now and loved her foods from the start. However, as time has gone on the recipes in our cookbooks have become more bland and not very exciting for her. When I was offered the opportunity to review an exciting collection of weaning recipes, I jumped at the chance! This book is The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed.

Zainab is the UK’s leading expert on flavour-led weaning with aromatic flavours and spices. The concept of flavour-led weaning is preparing your baby for eating more ‘grown up meals’ with the rest of the family, by using the more exciting flavours you may use in your own cooking.


The recipes contain herbs and spices which not only add more flavour to your baby’s food, but also contain added nutrients and health benefits. For example, the recipe for Chewable Teething Sticks contains nutmeg, which has eugenol in it – a natural medicine used to treat toothaches.

I use a lot of herbs and spices in my own cooking, so I am reassured now that Baby J will transition from her separate foods onto our family dinners with ease. She has loved the recipes I have cooked for her so far – especially the Zingy Pineapple Chicken! (To be honest, I loved this recipe too!)

The aspect of this book which I really like is that Zainab cooked up the concept when failing to find exciting recipes for her own baby daughter, Aaliyah. I worry about Baby J not loving food, or enjoying certain vegetables because the flavours just aren’t very exciting. It is nice to find a book which has had so much thought, love and care put into it from someone who is so passionate about children loving what they eat.

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook is easy to follow with a handy baby ‘age guide’ in each chapter. I find that a lot of weaning books don’t really give you a guide on how old your baby may be when they want to try new textures and tastes, but this one makes it brilliantly clear. Each chapter also has a clear meal planner – very, very handy when it comes to shopping lists!

The book contains over 100 recipes which are easy to follow. Many can be frozen in ice cube trays too. There are also some ‘no cook’ recipes and some meals which can be enjoyed by the whole family. This book really is a gem!

A Happy, Healthy Pancake Day featuring DYLON 

Do you like my apron? I fancied doing a bit of tie dye this weekend and produced this beauty! As Pancake Day is quickly approaching, I also thought I’d share a tasty and alternative pancake recipe with you. 

To create this apron I used fabulous DYLON dye in the colour Intense Violet. It was so much fun and easy to do. Baby J sat and watched me do it and was very excited to see the results! I may have also tie dyed some of her vests too… 

I followed a very easy tie dye tutorial which you can find here, it shows you how to achieve the different patterns too. 

And now for the cooking part! 

Squeaky Clean Blueberry Pancakes 

Ingredients – 

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Banana
  • 25g Rolled Oats
  • 1Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • Handful of Blueberries 
  • Sprinkle of Cinnamon 
  1. Place the eggs, banana, oats and cinnamon in a blender and blend until smooth. You can also do this step with just a bowl and fork – just mush it all together. 
  2. Melt the coconut oil in a frying pan
  3. Make little pools of pancake mixture in the pan for mini pancakes, or just make one big one! 
  4. Let the pancakes cook for about 30 seconds over a medium-high heat and then plop some blueberries onto the pancakes. 
  5. Flip the pancakes when they’re ready to cook the other side. 
  6. Serve with Greek yogurt or creme fraiche 

Easy isn’t it? These taste amazing, even if you’re not a banana fan like me, they don’t taste overly of banana. 

I will be doing another tie dye post soon using DYLON dyes again – it’ll be a pair of canvas pumps! Keep your eyes peeled for that one!

Sausage and Cider Stew with #Funky Flexitarian Sausages

I am always looking for foods which are both healthy and satisfying. There’s nothing more disappointing than eating a meal which is full of goodness, but has no substance to enjoy. When I stumbled across #Funky Flexitarian Sausages I was impressed with the ingredients – meat and veg in one gorgeous sausage, gluten free, low in sugar, reduced fat and high in protein – win!

There are four sausage combinations to choose from – Smokey pork n’Bombay Beet bangers, Beef Tomato n’ Basil bangers, Cauli’nation Chicken Chipolatas and Lamb’alafal Chipolatas. I decided I wanted to put together a filling Autumnal meal using the Beef, Tomato and Basil sausages – a Sausage and Cider Stew. I really hope you make it and love it!


Serves 2

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • A pack of #Funky Flexitarian Beef, Basil n’Tomato sausages
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Leek
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 250ml of Strong Cider
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Puree 
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 2 pinches Dried Mixed Herbs
  • 1 pinch Chilli Flakes
  • 300ml Beef or Vegetable Stock 
  • 200g Sweet Potato (I use the frozen chunks)
  • 2 Carrots
  • Salt and P Pepper

  1. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large saucepan and brown the sausages for 30 seconds on each side. Put them to one side
  2. In the same pan, heat the rest of the olive oil over a medium heat and add the leek, onion and garlic. Cook until they go soft

3. Pour in the cider, turn up the heat and leave it to reduce

4. Add the herbs, tomato puree, and mustard and give it a good stir

5. Add the stock and bring to the boil. Add the carrots, sweet potato and chilli flakes

6. Cover the pan and reduce the stew to a simmer for 15 minutes

7. Slice the sausages into quarters and add to the pan after the 15 minutes, along with salt and pepper. Stir, cover and leave for another 15 minutes

Serve this meal with mash or just have a big yummy bowl to curl up on the sofa with like I did!

Amazing Avocado Lunch!

My name is Kerry and I’m addicted to avocados.

There, I’ve said it. I really am addicted to them. I eat one everyday and since doing so, I’ve seen a lot of changes in my body. My hair is shinier, my skin is glowing and my tummy just seems to be smiling on the inside. I’m a runner so need lots of energy foods and avocados boost my energy tenfold.  

Today I wanted to share my lunch with you. It’s quick and simple to make, but will make you feel wonderful. The base is rye bread, I use this one. 

It has a certain sweetness to it, I think it’s coming from the pumpkin seeds. I get it from Tesco. Rye bread is a brilliant substitute for normal bread. I find bread very difficult to eat as it hurts my stomach and leaves me bloated and useless. Rye bread is wheat free and contains as much as four times the fibre than standard white bread contains. It also helps you stay full for longer, so having it for breakfast is a good idea. 

I top my rye with sliced avocado. Avocados really are, what you’d call a superfood! They are incredibly nutritious and contain many vitamins – vitamin K, C, B5, B6 and E. They also contain potassium – even more than bananas! They can lower your cholesterol too. 

On top of the avocado, I sprinkle on some hot smoked paprika, pepper, lime juice (if you’re feeling fancy!) and dried chilli flakes. I love a bit of heat with avocado and chillies are another obsession of mine. I have over ten different types of chilli plant growing in my living room and kitchen!  

I have also been adding a really cool ingredient to this dish recently called Smokin’ Coconut Pecks and they’re made by a company called Inspiral. They’re crunchy air dried coconut pieces which have a smoked paprika and lime flavouring on them. I got them in my Vegan Kind box this month, which you can buy here
