YiLiANGA Anti-Freckle Essence BB cream

As you’ll probably know by now, I’ve recently got into Korean beauty. This was thanks to my friends at Beaut East Sphere and awesome websites like YesStyle.com (you can read about my haul here). Every now and then something catches my eye on the Wish app and I just have to give it a go – for the sake of the blog of course! I was drawn to this YiLiANGA BB Cream  because I have seen other BB creams from Korea which give the wearer enviable dewy skin, with light, airy coverage (I also ADORE the packaging!).

I ordered the product in the shade 1 – Light. This was too light for my skin tone to be honest and I looked like the walking dead when I put it on (pictures coming your way!). It comes in a very pretty lilac pink pot with a lid. The product is solid inside and it comes with a puff for application. I can’t stand a puff, so I used my brush one day and my beauty sponge another day.

The product was much more high coverage than I expected. I always imagine BB Creams to be light on the skin and for some imperfections to still show through. Once the product is broken down onto a brush/blender, it does move around on the skin quite easily.

To test the product I decided to prime my face beforehand. I then wet my beauty blender with my fixing spray and applied the BB Cream onto my face by dabbing with my sponge. It went on easily enough, but was quite patchy in places – for example around my nose. It also clung to any dry patches on my skin – so attractive.

In the photo below, I have applied the product to half my face. as you can see, the coverage is pretty full on and has covered up my redness well.

This is my ‘On the verge of getting a cold’ face

I applied the cream to the rest of my face and carried out my makeup routine as normal – setting my face with a powder, bronzing, adding blush and highlighting. I then sprayed with my setting spray. To be honest, before I’d even added the blusher, the BB cream was starting to separate on my skin in front of my eyes, especially on my nose. It felt incredibly drying too. I know that with a BB Cream you wouldn’t normally add all the extra product over the top, but I really don’t see this product as a cream, it is definitely more of a foundation.

Here’s a close-up of my skin after I finished my whole face –

As you can see, it made my skin look very dry and had a kind of ‘mottled’ look about it. It just felt incredibly uncomfortable on my skin. I didn’t take it off however, as I wanted to see how it lasted on my skin throughout the day.

It is now 7.45pm and I got home from a very sweaty run about half an hour ago. Looking in the mirror, the makeup really hasn’t moved at all. The texture still looks horrible, but the coverage is still there and you wouldn’t know that I’d been close to death only 30 minutes ago. It actually looks exactly the same as it did this morning when I applied it (photo above).

I think this product cost me around £3-4 and I will be using it again. I actually want to try it on a Summer’s day, with no other makeup on top. I also want to wait until my skin is feeling moisturised again, because at the moment it is dehydrated. We’ll see what the future holds for YiLiANGA Anti-Freckle Essence BB cream…

For now, it does look beautiful on display in my beauty area!

Benecos Natural Beauty – Product Reviews

Last week I was sent some gorgeous goodies from Benecos to review. Benecos produce natural, cruelty-free and vegan makeup and sell them at affordable prices. They also sell natural skincare, natural hair care and natural body care products which are all 100% natural with organic ingredients. In my package I received the Natural Light Fluid Foundation, Natural Lipstick in ‘Catwalk’ and two eyeshadows – Shimmery Eyeshadow in ‘Rose Quartz’ and Eyeshadow Matte in ‘Mauve Me’. I tried them all out today and here’s my honest review…

Benecos Natural Light Fluid Foundation in Dune – £7.16

This is a lightweight foundation which blends beautifully and evenly over the face. To apply it I used my Kabuki brush. I built up the coverage because I have some redness on my cheeks which I like to cover. The foundation coped very well with this and evened out my skintone effortlessly. I took a photo of the coverage on just half my face for comparison purposes.

The foundation on half of my face (my left side), after applying just one layer

The foundation contains organic, hydrating and nourishing ingredients including Avocado Oil and Argan Oil to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. It has a matte finish – perfect for me and my oily T-Zone! I also found that it lasted for a good few hours too and only started to cake slightly around my nose (no foundation has ever passed this test – trust me!). To purchase this foundation for yourself, click here.

Eyeshadows – Shimmery Eyeshadow in Rose Quartz and Eyeshadow Matte in Mauve Me

I received two beautiful eyeshadows, which perfectly compliment one another. I find that Mauve Me is perfect for the crease area, and have been reaching for it a lot.

Rose Quartz is a gorgeous shimmery shade, excellent for brightening up the eyes and I love to use it on the centre of the lid and inner corners for exactly this purpose. This would also make an absolutely stunning cheek highlight.

The eyeshadows are, of course, made from natural ingredients including Macadamia Oil and Sunflower Oil to help care for the delicate eye area. To buy yours, visit the eyeshadow section of the website here – there are lots to choose from!

Benecos Lipstick in the shade Catwalk – £5.56

I love this lipstick colour! It’s an orange-toned red and is such a statement lip colour. It is very nourishing on the lips and glides on with ease.

It contains beneficial and kind ingredients including Olive Oil and Avocado Oil to keep your lips feeling soft and moisturised throughout the day. It is just beautiful! To purchase your own, click here or to see what other shades are available, click here.

Overall, I am very pleased with these products and the high quality payoff I get from them. They also have fantastic longevity and didn’t need touching up throughout the day (apart from the lipstick!). I especially rate the foundation as the coverage is excellent and so natural looking. It also made my skin look silky smooth and the colour was a perfect match for my skin tone!

Visit the Benecos website here to find out more about the brand. I just know you’ll love them too!

Mum’s Christmas Makeup Look

When my Mum asked me to have a go at her makeup, I felt so excited! She’s the perfect person to practice the skills I’ve been studying on my Makeup Artistry course. I had to bear a few things in mind whilst I made my plan –

  • This is a Christmas party look, so it had to have a bit of classy sparkle somewhere!
  • Mum has green eyes, so I checked the colour wheel to see which colours complimented this and went for purples and burgundies.
  • Mum is a bit older than me, so really won’t appreciate unicorn highlighter and false eyelashes!
  • I asked Mum to bring her own foundation so that it was a perfect match for her skin tone and type.

After going through the plan with Mum, we decided not to use the Grav3yard Girl Swamp Queen Palette shade ‘Mancat’ as I previously planned, and opted for NYX Single Shadow in ‘Addiction’ instead as it had a bit more shimmer to it and a dramatic look.

Here is Mum’s before photo –

We began by cleansing, toning, moisturising and finally priming the skin.

MoisturiserBio Extracts Light Face Cream mixed with the Glow Booster

Primer – Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Next was foundation, Max Factor Colour Adapt in 70 Natural (Mum’s own) –

My favourite part now! I used the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer on Mum’s eyes and got to work on the eyeshadow look I’d planned for her.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette –

  1. Peaches n’ Cream all over the lid and brow bone
  2. Georgia over the lid
  3. Bellini in the centre of the lid
  4. Luscious in inner corner
  5. Peach Pit along lower lash line

NYX Hot Singles Shadow in Shade ‘Addiction’ in outer half of lid. I concealed under the eyes with the Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer.

Next up, brows! I was particularly pleased with this as I think they changed Mum’s face completely! I used the Collection Eyebrow Define in Blonde.

I used the Collection Precision Contouring Stick just under Mum’s cheekbones. I didn’t want to go overboard on this because I think Mum has a lovely bone structure, without me having to cut it even more with contour. I also used Makeup Revolution’s Golden Sugar Blush Palette on the apples of the cheeks in the third shade along the top row. To add a subtle highlight, I applied the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in shade 001 Light.

The combination is gorgeous, don’t you think?

Now onto the lips, I wanted a subtle purple colour to make Mum’s eyes pop even more. We went for the Lancome Juicy Shaker in Berry in Love (smells delicious too!).

To complete the look, Mum applied her own mascara. Mum absolutely loves the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, she says she doesn’t get panda eyes with it and it stays on all day. Definitely one I want to have a go with!

Here is the completed look! Ta Dah!

Doesn’t she look beautiful? I’m so pleased with how everything came out and Mum was happy too! Mum’s eyes definitely look greener and larger and she’s definietly ready to party at Christmas!

Budget Beauty – The Poundland Make-up Challenge!

This weekend I set myself a Budget Beauty challenge. This time I decided to shop at Poundland and see if I could do a whole face of make-up for under £10. Was it possible? Here’s what I bought –

I spent a grand total of £8 and managed to get products for every part of my face. Poundland’s make-up range is called Make Up Gallery. Without meaning to sound too snobby, I wouldn’t normally even glance at the make-up section in Poundland as it’s not normally a shop I would associate with buying make-up from. However, I’ve been having a play with the products I purchased today and I must say that I’m very impressed. Here’s a run-through of the look I created and the ratings I have for each product.

Foundation – Make Up Gallery Gorgeous Flawless Long Lasting Foundation

I wasn’t able to get the foundation shade which was close to my skin tone, so had to get a shade darker. I was very impressed with the creamy texture of this product and the coverage from the small amount I squeezed onto my hand (pictured below) was fantrastic. I applied it with my Real Techniques foundation brush.

Make Up Gallery Gorgeous Flawless Long Lasting Foundation – Rating 3/5

Eyes – Make Up Gallery Glide Away Eyeshadow Stick, Chick Flick Eyeliner and Never-Ending Story Lengthening Mascara

I chose eye make-up with the theme of a night out in mind. I went for the shimmery eyeshadow stick (shade unknown, sorry!) and a glittery eyeliner.

As you can see, the eyeshadow swatches beautifully. Being completely honest, the eyeliner was quite difficult to use. The applicator brush was teeny and difficult to get much product onto.

Below you will see photos of the completed look, which I was very pleased with. I used the eyeshadow stick all over my lid and in the water line to open up my eyes. I applied a tiny amount of the eyeliner along my lash line.

I love the name of the mascara! So sweet! This mascara has excellent staying power.I am always concerned about panda eyes so usually wear waterproof mascaras. However I didn’t have any issues at all. It also did as it said and definitely made my eyelashes look longer. It is a conditioning formula which contains panthenol and keratin. Here’s the finished eye look –

Make Up Gallery Glide Away Eyeshadow Stick – Rating 3/5

Chick Flick Eyeliner – Rating 2/5

Never-Ending Story Lengthening Mascara – Rating 3/5

Concealer – Make Up Gallery Hide & Chic Concealer Natural Coverage

This is the lightest shade Ivory. It went into the skin smoothly and blended well when I used my beauty blender. I used it under the eyes and on blemishes.

Rating – 4/5

Cheeks – Make Up Gallery Good to Glow Highlighter and Feeling Blush Blusher

As you will probably know by now, I absolutely love a good highlighter and this one is just fantastic! It is highly pigmented and beautifully glowy. I applied it to the high points of my face with a blusher brush.

Rating – 5/5

The blusher is gorgeous too and a little goes a long way. It’s the shade Coral Rose and is the perfect shade for this season. It will be featured again in my upcoming Autumn make-up post.

Rating – 5/5

Lips – Make Up Gallery Pout Matters Matt Lip Colour

I went for the shade vintage pink as I felt it went beautifully with the other products. As you can see, it swatched beautifully.

It has a very creamy texture and the brush makes it easy to apply. I absolutely adore the shade and know that it will be a staple item this Autumn. It has good staying power until I ate, but a quick top up solved that problem.

Rating – 4/5

Everything on my face in the photo above is from Poundland (apart from my eyebrows where I used Rimmel London Brow This Way).

Overall I’m very pleased with my purchases from Poundland. To be able to do a whole face of make-up for only £8 is amazing. It just goes to show that make-up doesn’t always have to break the bank to be any good. I’m absolutely in love with a few of the products here and can’t wait to experiment some more with them. That highlighter is just on point!
