MUA Makeup Academy Prism Loose Powder Highlighter | Star Illusion

When I saw MUA had released a new loose powder highlighter as part of their new Prism range, I just had to give it a try. I don’t actually own any of these types of highlighter, so have been very intrigued to see what the excitement is all about. Firstly, I was surprised by the size of the pot it came in – it’s a decent size! There is 18g of powder inside too, which is a lot as it is very finely milled. I love the lid of the pot too – so sleek and classy in black plastic with holographic font on the top. It looks beautiful when it catches the light. Under the lid is a little sifter, perfect for controlling the amount of powder that comes out.

On first glance the powder looks white, but when you look closely it reflects pink in the light. A little goes a long way with this product. I poured the tiniest amount of it onto my hand for the swatch below and it seemed to blend out forever!

Yesterday morning I got the urge to create a pretty Halloween makeup look and this highlighter was perfect for the occasion. I attempted mermaid makeup and used the highlighter over pretty much all of my face. I applied it to the high points of my face as per, but then added a bit less product around these areas. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of this highlighter, especially considering its very low price tag of £5.

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Glow | Bronzer and Highlighter

You may have read my review of the Makeup Revolution Night Palette, one of the eyeshadow palettes which belongs to the Renaissance collection. A big part of the appeal with these palettes is their beautiful packaging. They come in a black box with rose gold decorations. Inside the black box, they are packaged in a cute velvet pouch (a little bit of added luxury). The casing itself is so so beautiful – matte black with rose gold edging and I just love the clasp which opens and closes them.

The Renaissance Glow contains a bronzer and a highlight. The palette was re-released last week, claiming to be ‘New and Improved’. I never tried the original myself, but I’m happy with the reformulation of this one.

The bronzer is matte and very light. To be honest, I haven’t been using it as a bronzer but actually as a contour. It is the perfect contour shade for pale skin as it has grey, shadowy undertones.

The highlighter is the main reason you should buy this palette! It is gold and gives a ‘wet look’ on the high points of the face. A little goes a long way with this one, I really like it. I’m off to a very special party in October and I will be packing this in my overnight bag.

Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter | Liquid Champagne

With high end brands releasing their own highlighter drops with a high end price tag, it’s great to see Makeup Revolution producing these little beauties for us money conscious gals. Let me tell you, these are just as beautiful, blinding and long wearing as the Iconic London and Cover FX drops claim to be.

Of the four Liquid Highlighters I bought, Liquid Champagne is definitely my favourite. The shade is perfect for my skin tone and it has that ‘wet’ look about it that I’ve been searching for from a highlighter. The champagne colour itself is just stunning and so perfect for special occasions. I also can’t wait to put this all over my face, shoulders and collarbone at Christmas!

Like Liquid Starlight, Liquid Champagne is a dream to blend and very little product is needed for a beautiful glow. Once again, like Liquid Starlight and Unicorn Elixir, the highlighter’s staying power is second to none. I’ve never used such long-lasting highlighters before and they stay as gorgeous as when you first put them on all day.

Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter | Unicorn Elixir

Unicorns are a craze that just don’t seem to want to gallop away. In fact, they’re getting bigger, bolder and sparklier and seem to be entering all aspects of our lives, including our makeup! I have posted many times on unicorn themed makeup products and a lot of these have actually been from Makeup Revolution. Confession time: I’m a bit of a sucker for unicorn makeup (no surprise there!).

You know from yesterday’s post that I have been so excited about Makeup Revolution’s new Liquid Highlighters and in particular this one, Unicorn Elixir. I haven’t been disappointed, this highlighter is so pretty! The highlighter drops come in a lovely bottle with a dropper lid, excellent for applying the highlight and for making you look cool like all the Instagram demos you see nowadays. I love the holographic label too (sorry if it’s not holo, I don’t know the difference!).

The highlighter itself is a translucent silver with a purple/blue reflect. I would say it’s surprisingly more subtle than the other liquid highlighters, but is still very unique in its tone. It does have a very fantastical theme to it and is unlike any other highlighter I own. I think the fact it is sheer makes it a more every day wear kind of highlighter. I really like it.

As I have found with the other liquid highlighters, this one has brilliant staying power. It hasn’t budged all day and actually the swatches were very hard to remove! I also enjoyed putting a tad under my BB cream today for a ‘glowing from within’ look. It is a very versatile liquid highlighter!

xoBeauty Radiant Glow Highlight Powder in Aurora

As you know and as I keep telling you, highlighters are my favourite makeup products to collect and apply. So my favourite products, combined with my favourite beauty guru equals a massive win for me. When Shaaanxo announced the release of her two new highlighters, I just couldn’t wait to order myself one from xoBeauty in New Zealand.

I was most interested in this highlighter because it isn’t advertised as a ‘blinding’ one, but more as a ‘radiant glow’. Every highlighter I own to date is over the top shimmery and don’t get me wrong, I do love this, but more subtle highlights have appealed to me recently.

The packaging is absolutely stunning and matches the lipsticks (which I also wrote a review on, read it here) with the mirrored casing. You receive 10g of product inside the case, which closes securely, with what I think is a magnetic fastening. It’s a gorgeous little compact, with a mirror in the lid, perfect to carry around with you.

Now, another cool thing about this highlighter is that it isn’t just used in the ‘usual’ way. Due to its buildable texture, the highlighter can also be applied lightly all over the face for a blurring effect. If subtlety isn’t your thing, then you can wet your brush and apply it with that. So far, I have just been using it with a dry brush on my cheekbones and nose. To be honest, I haven’t gone a day since receiving it, where I haven’t worn it. I’ve received a lot of highlighters in the post over the last week or so, including a Jeffree Star one, but I keep coming back to this one.

Overall I’m impressed with the quality and versatility of this product. The powder itself is beautifully, finely milled and so easy to work with and not heavy on the skin. I love its buildable nature and also the colour which is a champagne pink. It really is ‘Photoshop in a compact’!

Makeup Revolution Rainbow Highlighter | Review and Swatches

Those of you who have been regularly reading my blog for a while now will know how much I love me a blinding highlighter and that a lot of them I have reviewed have been rainbow ones. This little beauty was released by Makeup Revolution last week and is an incredible £4! Before I say anything else, I have to put it out there that this is an incredibly high quality and pigmented highlighter, especially for the price.

Let’s start with the packaging – it comes in a compact, plastic case with a border of holo (don’t shoot me if this is not holo – trust me, I struggle to know the difference between all the special rainbow effects!).

There are five highlight colours inside this palette – you can wear each colour individually, swirl your brush and grab each colour or paint an actual rainbow on your cheekbones. When I was experimenting, I found that when you swirl your brush across all the colours, the overall effect is a predominantly blue colour.

As I mentioned previously, the colours in this palette are extremely pigmented and easy to work with. I couldn’t believe the shine achieved just from swatching the product very lightly onto the back of my hand.

20170714_094439

Today, I used the pink colour on the tops of my cheekbones, nose and Cupid’s bow. It has such a pretty effect and went smoothly onto my skin. It didn’t gather or look chalky. It just left a gorgeous glow. I’m in love!

To buy your own, either visit TAM Beauty here or Superdrug online here. It is also available in Superdrug stores. I can honestly say it’s worth every penny.

Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss Highlighter in Ice Kiss

It is once again time for another highlighter review! This is the beautiful Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss Highlighter in the shade Ice Kiss

The rose gold packaging for this highlighter is absolutely stunning. It is a large compact and you get 14g of highlighting powder for only £5 which is excellent value for money. There is also a huge mirror inside – handy for on the go!

The look and feel of these highlighters really remind me of the Jeffree Star Skin Frost ones (but I feel these are a much classier version!).

In the pan, the powder has a white glow but in the light it has a gold reflect. These highlighters have been designed for the body as well as the face (hence the reason why you get so much product) and this particular shade would look gorgeous along the collar bone on an evening out. I applied it to the cheekbones and nose today and I’m so pleased with how it looks.

The powder is very buildable and can also be applied with a wet brush for a more intense glow.

You can buy your own Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss Highlighter here. There are four shades currently available – Ice Kiss, Peach Kiss, Golden Kiss and Bronze Kiss.

Which one would you choose?

Fun Valentine’s Day Makeup

Yay, I’m so excited about this one! Baby J had a long nap this afternoon, so instead of cleaning, doing the washing, blah, etc. I played around with my makeup collection! I’ve been planning a Valentine’s look for a couple of weeks and I really hope you like it. It’s quite OTT in some places, but you can use what you want from it. I took a no makeup selfie to start with, for a bit of ‘before and after’.

I haven’t gone into detail over my whole face prep, as I’ve done that before in my Christmas look and it hasn’t really changed much since then. I’ve taken a photo of everything I used and here is the list –

  • Soap & Glory Speed Plump Moisturiser
  • Carmex lip balm
  • L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oreal True Match Concelaer in Vanilla
  • MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as an eye primer
  • Collection Precision Contour
  •  Collection Eyebrow Definer
  • PS… Pro HD Mascara

I have put the focus of this post onto my eye makeup, as it’s the statement part of the whole look. For eyeshadow I used the amazing Makeup Revolution 144 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette Collection 2017 (an amazing £10!) I’ve written about it before here.

I’ve taken step-by-step photos as I feel it’s easier to show you what I did, you can also see what brushes I used for each part of the eye, they’re from the Spectrum Eye Blending Set.

  1. I applied a peachy nude to my whole lid and up to the brow bone

2. A light pink in my crease

3. I went over the crease again with this darker pink shade

4. The darkest pink in that column was then applied to my outer corners

5. I used the neon pink as a liner on half of my under eyes

6. I then used the bright lilac on the other half of my under eye and blended them together for a gradient effect

7. I used a bright, shimmery, light pink on the centre of my lids

8. I completed the work with the shadows by applying Unicorns Heart highlighter – the pink shade – to the inner corners to make my eyes pop!

Here’s how it looked when they eye shadow process was complete –

To make the look fun and unique, I applied The Sparkles Store Valentine’s Mix loose glitter to my inner corners and then picked out the cute little hearts and stuck them with glitter fixing glue on my outer brow bone.

Now for the lashes! These are called #Sexy and are from Beauty Atelier Shop. You can purchase them here. You can also use this code – KER 10 – for free shipping, woohoo! The eyelashes are handmade and 100% silk. They are so comfortable to wear and create an instant car eye look! Beauty Atelier Shop also have other amazing and exclusive items that you need to check out. I will be uploading a video about some of their products in the next few days.

For highlight, I used Glitter Eyes highlight in the shade ThatGlo. My blush is from a palette in the Makeup Revolution 12 Days of Christmas box.

And finally…lips. I used the awesome Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matt Lip Kit in Echelon .

And there we have it! I’m so pleased with the final result! Unfortunately, my camera didn’t pick up the prettiness of the highlighter, it has an iridescent pink shimmer in certain lights. Believe me when I say that it’s beautiful.

Girls with Attitude – Glow It! Highlighting Palette

Girls with Attitude launched this beautiful highlighting palette late last year. It contains three gorgeous, shimmery shades to brighten your skin for a radiant glow.

The box is a beautiful rose gold. There is also a mirror inside – I love it when a palette comes with a mirror! I like the fact that it has an elastic strap to hold the lid closed – very handy if you’re keeping it in a handbag or suitcase.

The shades inside are all year round perfect. I can see them looking amazing at Christmas, New Year, but also in the summer as they’d add a lovely bronze glow to your face and even your body.

The colours will also work well to compliment all skin tones – there’s something for everyone!

Along the palette from left to right

The shades are ultra pigmented and are velvety smooth to apply. They also have excellent staying power and I think they look beautiful. You can apply lightly for a more natural glow or build up the colour for impact.

Girls with Attitude sell only cruelty free makeup, which is something we all want to hear nowadays.

Beauty Product Review – MUA Makeup Academy Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter in Opalescent Amber

It’s time for another highlighter review! This one is the Makeup Academy Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder in Opalescent Amber.

As is the story of my life, I was a bit behind with learning about the Autumn trend of the ‘pumpkin spice latte’ highlighter. I stumbled across a YouTube video about it last week and went on the search. The original highlighter is by an Etsy shop called FeatherRiverBody, but is difficult to buy because it’s in high demand (think original rainbow highlighter!). I was delighted to find that Makeup Academy have their own version and it is only £3 on the MUA website or in Superdrug stores (they’re currently out of stock online).

This highlighter has a beautiful pumpkin tone and when it hits the light it has golden flecks running through it also.

This GIF demonstrates light passing over the highlighter
Opalescent Amber swatched on my hand

I applied the highlighter to the usual areas –

  • Cheekbones
  • Bridge and tip of the nose
  • Forehead, above the eyebrows
  • Cupid’s bow
  • Chin
Smile!

For only £3, there is a lot of high quality product. The colour is absolutely beautiful and unlike any highlighter I own. It goes very well with my neutral toned eyeshadow palettes, like my Morphe 35N. I will say that you do have to apply quite a lot to see the full beauty of it, but as there’s so much of the stuff, you won’t really mind.

Makeup Academy do other shades of this highlighter –  in pinks and whites – definitely work checking out!
