Maybelline Gigi Hadid Lipsticks | Taura and Austyn | Review and Swatches

The Maybelline collaboration with Gigi Hadid was highly anticipated in the drugstore beauty world but unfortunately received mixed reviews. After watching many YouTube reviews and reading others, I decided to just try out the lipsticks. I chose a nude and a classic red – Taura and Austyn.

Left – Austyn, Right – Taura

Taura is a classic nude lipstick, I would describe it as a ‘my lips but better shade’. Probably a bit more subtle than I wanted, but is nice for ‘no makeup’ looks and easy days. The formula itself is very nourishing and doesn’t dry out my lips at all. It’s described as a matte, but I’d say it’s a semi-matte.

Taura

Although this lipstick is nourishing and quite pretty, for £8.99 it is a bit of a disappointment. It is not very long wearing at all and comes off as soon as you drink/eat/kiss. I’m so sad about this!

Taura on the lips
Now, Austyn on the other hand is a lovely little lipstick. It is a bright, bold red with great pigment and much better staying power than Taura. It too is nourishing which I need in these cold months.

Austyn

The red is super bright. I love the undertones of orange  which make it a true festive red.

Both these lipsticks are available as lip kits and also with matching lip liner pencils. You can purchase them in Boots and Superdrug for £8.99.

Perfect Pout – The Natural Lip Enhancer

I was sent this nifty little gadget last week and couldn’t wait to give it a go. My top lip is pretty much non-existent and I’m really not one for surgical procedures. To be sent something that claims to increase the size of your lips, without hurting you or making permanent changes to your face is pretty cool and it looked like a lot of fun to use!

The Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer is simple and fun to use.

  1. Prep your lips with your usual lip balm
  2. Pop the device over your lips and start sucking in so that a suction is created around your lips
  3. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then remove
  4. Your lips will look fuller instantly!

Don’t fret, this is nothing like the Kylie Jenner challenge! It’s a perfectly safe and tested device. It’s not painful or uncomfortable and is easy to remove. They are available in different sizes and shapes depending on what look you want for your lips or how big your lips are naturally.

Before and After the Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer

The Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer is currently available to buy at Arch Angels beauty bars in Debenhams and will soon be available to buy online. I’ll keep you updated on this!

You can keep up to date with Perfect Pout through their social media –

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box Unboxing – February 2017

Welcome to the February The Vegan Kind Beauty Box Unboxing! I actually squealed in excitement when pulling these items from the box and here’s the lowdown as to why.

Your Tea ‘Tea Face’ Healing Hydration Scrub (RRP £17.95)

OK, so this product got the biggest scream from me! It is a massive product and the RRP is actually pretty much the same as the price of the whole subscription box!

Tea Face is a mix of tea granules with essential oils, such as jojoba, rosehip and patchouli. It is also scented with ylang ylang which smells amazing.

I tried it out this afternoon as my skin has been quite dry. I’ve not been drinking enough water the last few days and I’m really feeling it! This scrub really put some moisture back into my skin. To use it you have to firstly cleanse your skin, then smear a teaspoon full of the scrub over your face. You then rub it in in circular motions with your fingertips. You then leave it on your face anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. When ready to remove, use a warm, damp cloth to gently wipe it from your face.
Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge (RRP £4.99)

Oh how I love it when The Vegan Kind kind provide a beauty tool from Spectrum Collections! They are my favourite place for makeup brushes and this sponge is brilliant. I’ve owned one before, so I was so happy to receive a replacement one today.

These beauty sponges are latex free and of course vegan. It can be used to apply foundation, setting powder to the T-Zone or any other liquid or powder makeup!
PHB Ethical Beauty 100% Organic Apricot Lip Gloss (RRP £12.95)

This lip gloss is a nude colour with a hint of shimmer. I really can’t stand lip gloss normally as my hair sticks in it,  I find it slimy and I just generally hate the texture and feel of it! However, this little lip gloss may have changed my mind. It isn’t sticky at all! I also adore the golden shimmer that it has.

I’m going to wear it over lipstick on my Valentine’s date tonight as I think it will just add a touch of subtle prettiness to my look. This gloss also moisturises your lips as it contains shea butter and jojoba oil.
Grounded Edible Mango Lip Scrub (RRP £4.95)

Another awesome and extremely useful product for me. I love a lip scrub and the fact I can eat this one is even better! It smells beautiful and gets me thinking about the summer.

This scrub has lots of goodies inside to keep your lips smooth and moisturised. You just apply, rub and then lick it off! It has coconut oil in it and jojoba oil as well as Mango flavouring. I just love it!

Noughty Hair Care Intensive Care Leave-in Conditioner (RRP £6.99)

This is by a newly launched haircare range called Noughty. This product is especially effective on dry, frizzy or damaged hair with split ends. It contains shea butter and argan oil which will smooth the hair. It is free from silicones, sulphates, parabens and petrochemicals. No water required – It’s a little hair miracle worker!

Once again, The Vegan Kind Beauty Box didn’t disappoint. I always really look forward to receiving this box as the products are carefully selected and I know that the ingredients are kind to nature and animals. If you’d like to subscribe to The Vegan Kind Beauty Box, then click here.

Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Echelon

There’s a lot of hype online about these lip kits, they’re said to rival the Kylie ones for a fraction of the price. I can only dream of owning official Kylie Cosmetics – they’re pricey, shipping tax is ridiculous and so is the wait for them. If I can find a decent dupe though, well then I’m happy. I have here the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in the shade Echelon.

There are eight matte shades available currently – Echelon, Noble, Reign, Grandee, Royal, Regal, Glory and Magnificent.

Inside the sophisticated looking box you get a lip liner pencil and the liquid lipstick. The lipstick has a doe foot applicator – definitely my preferred applicator.

The liner pencil can be sharpened easily when it wears down. Just use a sharpener which is designed for makeup pencils.  It’s also handy to pop in a small bag to top up your lip colour on the go.

The liner pencil is beautifully creamy and glides onto the lips with ease. It does wear down quite quickly, but as mentioned earlier, it’s easy to sharpen.

Left – Liquid Lipstick ~ Right – Lip Liner

I used the pencil to line my lips only for this post. But today when I wore the product again I used it all over my lips and found the product stayed on very well because of this.

Here’s how the product looks on the lips – love it! –

These lip kits are an amazing £6. You can buy them in some Superdrug stores and online at TAM Beauty here. If you want the same shade as me, click here!

Overall, I’m pretty chuffed with this kit. I really want to try some more shades as there are some gorgeous ones in the full range.

To be honest, I just adore anything Makeup Revolution do at the moment!

Primark Beauty Haul – Part 2 ~ PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon in Mushroom

Welcome to part 2 of my Primark Beauty Haul. You can find part 1 here if you didn’t see it on Saturday. Today we’re focusing on the PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon in the shade ‘Mushroom’.

As is my usual style, I opted for a nude shade. I absolutely loved the swatch I did in store. I also really like the crayon applicator; a far cry from my usual liquid matte lipsticks.

It’s a mauve/taupe colour which I find stunning. It really is the colour of the moment and is quickly becoming a classic lip colour. The shade really reminds me of my favourite Mac colour ‘Brave’, which I purchased a couple of years ago when Kylie Jenner and her iconic lips first appeared on the scene.

As is always the way, the colour looks so different on my lips! Do you guys ever have this issue? A colour will look perfect on my hand, but once on my lips, it totally changes! I suppose it depends on your actual lip colour to start with. Saying that, I still love how it looks on.

The lipstick has a soft and moisturising consistency and glides on easily. The crayon means you can take your time with precision application. It didn’t dry my lips during the day and it had pretty good staying power. I did top it up after eating my lunch, but that’s because I wanted it to look nice for our guests this evening!

Overall, I’m happy with this particular Primark purchase. The nail varnishes impressed me also – Primark, you’re on a roll!

Beauty Product Review – Man Zi Miao Wine Lip Tint

Did I hear the mention of wine?! I can wear wine on my lips you say?

Say hello to the Man Zi Miao Wine Lip Tint!

This stain comes in a bottle shaped like a wine bottle, isn’t it adorable? It has gone straight in my handbag, ready to pull out and use to amuse the general public with.

It does have a slight sweet smell to it, grape and wine-like. It’s subtle but pleasant. The applicator is bent for easier application.

Man Zi Miao Wine Lip Tint Swatch

I have to say, the formula is fantastic. You need very little product and it goes a long way. It also has amazing staying power, probably the longest wearing lip stain I’ve ever come across. Granted, it doesn’t look as good now as it did this morning, but I’m still happy to go out with it like this.

10:30am
5:30pm

Another great thing about this lip stain is that it hasn’t dried my lips out at all. It actually feels moisturising!

I purchased this lip  tint from Wish again, but I did see them on eBay here for around 99p and Amazon here (although they’re pretty pricey!) I paid only £1 on Wish.

Beauty Product Review – Heng Fang Black Chrysanthemum Jelly Flower Lipstick

I’ve been excited about this post because I find these lipsticks so pretty. It’s the Heng Fang Black Chrysanthemum Jelly Flower Lipstick.

This lipstick is translucent and has a tiny dried flower inside. It smells sweet and is packaged in a lovely pink and rose gold tube.

The lipstick glides on. As you can see from the swatch on my hand, it is very sheer. The colour claims to change colour with your body temperature, a bit like one of those 90s mood rings you may have had as a kid. “Am I in a bad mood today? Well my mood ring is red, so I must be!” I miss those days.

The product was much more vibrant on my lips. It felt very moisturising and had good staying power.

I absolutely love the colour. You can never go wrong with a pink lipstick! I’m so intrigued to see what will happen when I wear this down to the flower, I want to take it out and display it somewhere!

Once again, I bought this lipstick through the Wish app and it was £1. Delivery didn’t take too long considering it was shipped from China. You can also find these on eBay, Amazon and AliExpress. They’re pretty popular at the moment.

BioAqua Collagen Nourish Lip Membrane

Welcome to a new series of posts where I will be testing out the wonderful world of Korean beauty. Korean beauty products have really come into the limelight recently, with rave reviews and people going crazy over the unique and innovative products with the cute packaging.

In this first review, I will be trying out the BioAqua Collagen Nourish Lips Membrane. I’ve seen these little jelly lip masks on a few makeup tutorial videos and was desperate to try them out. I have the Wish app on my phone where they sell lots of Korean beauty products at amazing prices. These cost me a grand total of a pound and were delivered very quickly. If you’re new to Wish, you can find the app for Android here and i0s here.

I love the packaging on these! They’re very cute. The instructions were in Korean, so I had to do my research on the correct way to use them on this site. These masks are supposed to really nourish your lips as the collagen gets absorbed, leaving them smooth and moisturised.

I took this rather fetching photo of my lips before I started the process –

wp-image-1333181860jpg.jpg

Now prepare yourself for some slightly manic, incredibly scary photos of yours truly posing with the mask on my mouth!

The below photo was taken when I was ‘having a lie down’ with the mask on. No, this wasn’t to have a few minute’s rest, this was actually to stop the thing sliding off of my face in an unattractive manner and slopping onto the floor.

wp-image-140571981jpg.jpg

I removed the mask after around 15 minutes (you should really leave it on for about 20, but I have a baby you know!) and rubbed the remaining liquid into my lips. Here’s the after photo –

wp-image-1899345246jpg.jpg

You can see a slight difference, I feel my lips look much pinker and healthier. They were feeling pretty dry today due to the drop in temperature. To be honest, I can feel the difference instead of actually being able to see it. My lips feel amazing! I keep touching them (how hygienic!) and rubbing them together to feel the softness.

For £1, you really can’t go wrong. They also provide fantastic props for selfies on your own or with mates. If you can rope in an unsuspecting male to have a go, then you’re definitely on to some winning photos!

Beauty Product Review – Yurily Glam Up Your Lips Glitter Lips

With Christmas just over a week away, glitter is currently a staple item in my life. If it’s not on my hair or body or clothing, then it will definitely be making an appearance on my face. I’ve seen glitter lips ALL OVER the internet and decided to have a go at them myself. I purchased this Yurily Glam Up Your Lips Glitter Lips Kit.

It’s in the shade ‘Barbie Glam‘. I didn’t want too festive a colour as let’s be honest, glitter lips are for life, not just for Christmas. I wanted something I could use all year round.

Here’s how the kit works –

  1. Part your lips and apply the lip glue. I applied this to half a lip at a time as it dries quite quickly. Wait for the glue to turn from white to clear.

2. Next, apply the glitter using a slightly damp sponge tipped applicator (provided)

And you’re done! Looking more shimmery than your Christmas tree!

I have a Christmas party to go to tomorrow and will be writing about my look as a tutorial. This will either be live tomorrow evening or Monday. It will, of course feature these lips again!

To buy the kit for yourself, visit this link. They’re a bargain £4.99.

I absolutely love this look! The glitter has amazing staying power and survived the kiss test. You may find little bits of glitter come loose, but nothing too major that will ruin your look.

What do you think?

Mum’s Christmas Makeup Look

When my Mum asked me to have a go at her makeup, I felt so excited! She’s the perfect person to practice the skills I’ve been studying on my Makeup Artistry course. I had to bear a few things in mind whilst I made my plan –

  • This is a Christmas party look, so it had to have a bit of classy sparkle somewhere!
  • Mum has green eyes, so I checked the colour wheel to see which colours complimented this and went for purples and burgundies.
  • Mum is a bit older than me, so really won’t appreciate unicorn highlighter and false eyelashes!
  • I asked Mum to bring her own foundation so that it was a perfect match for her skin tone and type.

Plan.jpg

After going through the plan with Mum, we decided not to use the Grav3yard Girl Swamp Queen Palette shade ‘Mancat’ as I previously planned, and opted for NYX Single Shadow in ‘Addiction’ instead as it had a bit more shimmer to it and a dramatic look.

Here is Mum’s before photo –

wp-image-1028489304jpg.jpg

We began by cleansing, toning, moisturising and finally priming the skin.

MoisturiserBio Extracts Light Face Cream mixed with the Glow Booster

Primer – Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Next was foundation, Max Factor Colour Adapt in 70 Natural (Mum’s own) –

My favourite part now! I used the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer on Mum’s eyes and got to work on the eyeshadow look I’d planned for her.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette –

  1. Peaches n’ Cream all over the lid and brow bone
  2. Georgia over the lid
  3. Bellini in the centre of the lid
  4. Luscious in inner corner
  5. Peach Pit along lower lash line

NYX Hot Singles Shadow in Shade ‘Addiction’ in outer half of lid. I concealed under the eyes with the Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer.

Next up, brows! I was particularly pleased with this as I think they changed Mum’s face completely! I used the Collection Eyebrow Define in Blonde.

I used the Collection Precision Contouring Stick just under Mum’s cheekbones. I didn’t want to go overboard on this because I think Mum has a lovely bone structure, without me having to cut it even more with contour. I also used Makeup Revolution’s Golden Sugar Blush Palette on the apples of the cheeks in the third shade along the top row. To add a subtle highlight, I applied the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in shade 001 Light.

15

The combination is gorgeous, don’t you think?

Now onto the lips, I wanted a subtle purple colour to make Mum’s eyes pop even more. We went for the Lancome Juicy Shaker in Berry in Love (smells delicious too!).

18

To complete the look, Mum applied her own mascara. Mum absolutely loves the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, she says she doesn’t get panda eyes with it and it stays on all day. Definitely one I want to have a go with!

Here is the completed look! Ta Dah!

Doesn’t she look beautiful? I’m so pleased with how everything came out and Mum was happy too! Mum’s eyes definitely look greener and larger and she’s definietly ready to party at Christmas!
