Maybelline Gigi Hadid Lipsticks | Taura and Austyn | Review and Swatches

The Maybelline collaboration with Gigi Hadid was highly anticipated in the drugstore beauty world but unfortunately received mixed reviews. After watching many YouTube reviews and reading others, I decided to just try out the lipsticks. I chose a nude and a classic red – Taura and Austyn.

Left – Austyn, Right – Taura

Taura is a classic nude lipstick, I would describe it as a ‘my lips but better shade’. Probably a bit more subtle than I wanted, but is nice for ‘no makeup’ looks and easy days. The formula itself is very nourishing and doesn’t dry out my lips at all. It’s described as a matte, but I’d say it’s a semi-matte.

Taura

Although this lipstick is nourishing and quite pretty, for £8.99 it is a bit of a disappointment. It is not very long wearing at all and comes off as soon as you drink/eat/kiss. I’m so sad about this!

Taura on the lips
Now, Austyn on the other hand is a lovely little lipstick. It is a bright, bold red with great pigment and much better staying power than Taura. It too is nourishing which I need in these cold months.

Austyn

The red is super bright. I love the undertones of orange  which make it a true festive red.

Both these lipsticks are available as lip kits and also with matching lip liner pencils. You can purchase them in Boots and Superdrug for £8.99.

Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Lip Vault | Review and Swatches

As you know, I already own quite a few Makeup Revolution products but I don’t own many of their lip kits. I have the Halloween Unicorn lip kit and the original Retro Luxe Matte kit in Echelon. However, the Echelon kit I own is in the original formula, which quite frankly wasn’t brilliant. Makeup Revolution worked hard to perfect their matte lip kit formula and I’ve heard only good things. I was super excited to see that they had put five gorgeous mattes, two glosses and three metallic shades into one box for Christmas and today I’m excited to share it with you!

The lip kits come in individual boxes inside a black, classy and pretty sturdy box. The kits are spread across two slide out drawers – an expensive looking Christmas present. Inside the top lid are illustrations of lips with the colours on and name of the kits. I really like this finishing touch.

The top drawer contains the matte lip kits and the bottom drawer contains two glosses and three metallics.

Let’s start with the matte kits. To be honest, I would buy this set for these alone. I love me a matte lipstick and five of them is just a bonus! They are mostly nude shades too, which are also my favourite (and a lot of other peoples’ at the moment!). Each kit contains a lip pencil and a liquid lipstick with a doe foot applicator. Each lipstick has a clear tube and matte rose gold lid. Each pencil is black, with a black lid and a little strip of the pencil colour on the bottom. The shade names are also written on the products.

  • Echelon – My favourite of the bunch! A pink based nude. This shade also won Gold in the 2017 Pure Beauty Awards!
  • Grandee – Very pink and very pretty. This is the brightest of the mattes
  • Noble – A close second favourite. This is a lovely brown nude
  • Duchess – A muted red/orange. Very sophisticated and slightly festive too!
  • Highness – A darker version of Noble – more brown but still in the nude category

Now for drawer two – glosses and metallics. Once again, all of these kits come with a lip pencil and liquid lipstick. The lids of the liquid lips are a shiny rose gold. So pretty!

Lip Glosses –

  • Honour – For a lip gloss, I actually love this. It isn’t gloopy and sticky. It is actually very wearable and super pigmented for a gloss. I love the colour too – a true nude brown
  • Original – This is my least favourite kit of the ten. It is very light and a peach colour. I just don’t think that it suits my skin tone. It would look lovely in the summer on someone with a fresh tan or even on deeper skin tones. I feel it just washes out my complexion. The colour is very pretty though.

Metallic Lip Kits –

  • Regent – This is the most pigmented and my favourite of the metallics. It’s a very festive red. It’s super unique and pretty. I feel this will be getting a lot of wear over the next couple of months!
  • Empress – This is a peachy nude metallic with a gold reflect. This looks gorgeous when it catches the light
  • In Waiting – another pretty pink. It’s the most natural of the metallics

When I swatched the lipsticks I didn’t use the lip pencils, I’ll hold my hands up this was probably not fair on the metallics. I feel the colours would be much more vibrant and stunning with a lip pencil underneath.

I have been testing out the formula of the mattes over the last few days and have to say I’m very impressed. The longevity of the colours is fantastic and lasted through various snacks, drinks and meals. The colours are also gorgeous. It is a lightweight formula and doesn’t have the stickiness that the original formula had.

If you’re debating whether or not to get this for someone for Christmas, or even as a gift for yourself I say get one! For £30 you’re getting £60 worth of products. There’s something in this set for everyone – you really can’t go wrong.

Joan Collins Timeless Beauty | Divine Lips Lipsticks | Helene and Lara

Everyone knows who Joan Collins is,  right? Not everyone knows that she has her own line of makeup though. I didn’t know myself until I stumbled across the Timeless Beauty Instagram page. I instantly fell in love with the gorgeous gold packaging of the lipsticks (a nod to the Charlotte Tilbury ones) and I was very fortunate to be sent two gorgeous shades by Alex Silver PR.

Left: Helene, Right: Lara

I received a red shade – Helene – and a shimmery pink – Lara. Both are very wearable and perfect for every day wear. Helene is very festive and perfect for a party. I have worn Lara more because it is lovely during the day and due to its sheer finish, looks very pretty on minimal makeup days.

The Divine Lips lipsticks are extremely nourishing and moisturising. I actually can’t believe how good they make my lips feel. They also make them look fuller, which is always a bonus! The lipsticks contain hyaluronic acid, which isn’t as scary as it sounds. Hyaluronic acid is an excellent ingredient and something which our skin already contains. It plays a big part in hydrating the skin – so having some extra in your makeup and skin care is a brilliant thing.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick Collection | Review and Swatches

When I received a box of twelve Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipsticks, complimentary of Bourjois and Influenster, I couldn’t have been more excited to try them all out! Every single shade appealed to me and I just didn’t know where to begin!

The packaging for these lipsticks is simple but elegant and they have a very secure closing lid which clicks loudly so you can guarantee it won’t come off on your travels and in your bag.

The Rouge Velvet lipsticks have a matte finish – but the thing I love about them is that they go on in a creamy, almost typical lipstick formula and then dry down to a matte finish. It’s like magic!

After trying the lipsticks for a few days now, I can say that they are non-drying and very comfortable to wear. They last for a few hours but the real test is when you eat. I wouldn’t say that they last very well through a meal, only a small amount of colour remains.

My favourite shade is ‘Brunette’, the darkest of the collection. Watch the video below for swatches and names of all the lipsticks.

I was MUA to Kitty Clements this week, on a shoot with the amazing Oliver Lall and I used one of these on her. We went for the shade ‘Fuchsia Botte’ as Oliver wanted a blue and pink theme (more about this in a separate post soon!). The colour looked fab and here’s a sneak peek from the shoot…

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick | Greatest

This is my second purchase of the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipsticks. I already own ‘Vow’ and have been addicted to its colour and formula. I spoke about it recently here.
The lipsticks come in the most beautiful rose gold packaging. They really remind me of the much coveted Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks and I often get the two confused when I see them in Instagram posts! A big bonus to these lipsticks is that they close very securely with a reassuring click – it means the lid won’t be falling off in your bag! I love how the Makeup Revolution logo is printed on the lipstick barrel and is revealed when you take the lid off.

This particular lipstick is in the shade ‘Greatest’ – a mauve/pink/nude colour which I felt was missing from my collection. I’m absolutely in love with the colour. I’ll actually be purchasing it for my mum too – it would suit her so much!

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick in the shade Greatest - Swatch
Makeup Revolution Renaissance Lipstick in the shade Greatest – Swatch

The formula of these lipsticks is incredible – creamy and long-lasting. It glides onto the lips and doesn’t cling to dry patches. It doesn’t smudge and stays put all day. It removes easily at the end of the day too. I’m honestly blown away by these lipsticks. And guess how much they are?! £4!! And yes, I’ll say it, I love these more than the MAC lipsticks, by miles.

xoBeauty Matte Lipstick in Philocaly

When I watched Shaaanxo’s new makeup line announcement video last week, I was so excited by the beautiful colours and quality of both her liquid and regular lipsticks. I was especially excited by the matte lipstick in the shade ‘Philocaly‘ and settled on just this one. It arrived today – just a week after it was posted from New Zealand!

Shaaanxo is by far my favourite YouTube Beauty Guru. I first discovered her when scouring the web for a wedding makeup tutorial. I actually used her one for my own wedding makeup (yes I was brave enough and mad enough to do my own makeup!). She always manages to achieve pure magic with any eyeshadow and her makeup tips are useful and achievable.  I was extremely excited to see that she’d actually signed the card that came with the lipstick too – I had a extreme fan-girl moment when I saw it!

The lipstick came packaged in a cute white box with grey polka dots on it. Inside, the tube of the lipstick has a chrome/mirror effect which is just so classy and pretty. The lid clicks into place over the lipstick, so there’s no need to worry about it coming off in your handbag.

I did a swatch of the lipstick on my arm first and it swatched beautifully. It has a very creamy texture which glides onto the skin. The colour looks even more beautiful in real life and I think I picked well for my skin tone. It is a stunning pinky nude – my fave!

Swatch – xoBeauty Matte Lipstick in Philocaly

When I put it onto my lips, I was first impressed by the gorgeous smell of crème brûlée – don’t worry if you don’t like strong smells in your makeup, this is a beautifully subtle scent. The lipstick went smoothly onto my lips and didn’t cling to patches as matte lipsticks have a habit of doing. It feels very nourishing on the lips too. I’ve had it on all day and my skin doesn’t feel dried out at all. It also really stayed put! There was very little transfer when kissing Baby J and the hubby and it stayed on very well during meals.

Overall, I’m very happy with this lipstick. I’m so pleased that it has been lovingly designed and created by a brilliant YouTuber, who has worked hard to get to this stage. You could tell from her announcement video how much this collection really meant to her. Philocaly also really reminds me of MAC’s Brave in colour – but I actually prefer this formula! It has better staying power and is much easier to apply.

Benecos Natural Beauty – Product Reviews

Last week I was sent some gorgeous goodies from Benecos to review. Benecos produce natural, cruelty-free and vegan makeup and sell them at affordable prices. They also sell natural skincare, natural hair care and natural body care products which are all 100% natural with organic ingredients. In my package I received the Natural Light Fluid Foundation, Natural Lipstick in ‘Catwalk’ and two eyeshadows – Shimmery Eyeshadow in ‘Rose Quartz’ and Eyeshadow Matte in ‘Mauve Me’. I tried them all out today and here’s my honest review…

Benecos Natural Light Fluid Foundation in Dune – £7.16

This is a lightweight foundation which blends beautifully and evenly over the face. To apply it I used my Kabuki brush. I built up the coverage because I have some redness on my cheeks which I like to cover. The foundation coped very well with this and evened out my skintone effortlessly. I took a photo of the coverage on just half my face for comparison purposes.

wp-image-1243154765jpg.jpg
The foundation on half of my face (my left side), after applying just one layer

The foundation contains organic, hydrating and nourishing ingredients including Avocado Oil and Argan Oil to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. It has a matte finish – perfect for me and my oily T-Zone! I also found that it lasted for a good few hours too and only started to cake slightly around my nose (no foundation has ever passed this test – trust me!). To purchase this foundation for yourself, click here.

Eyeshadows – Shimmery Eyeshadow in Rose Quartz and Eyeshadow Matte in Mauve Me

I received two beautiful eyeshadows, which perfectly compliment one another. I find that Mauve Me is perfect for the crease area, and have been reaching for it a lot.

Rose Quartz is a gorgeous shimmery shade, excellent for brightening up the eyes and I love to use it on the centre of the lid and inner corners for exactly this purpose. This would also make an absolutely stunning cheek highlight.

The eyeshadows are, of course, made from natural ingredients including Macadamia Oil and Sunflower Oil to help care for the delicate eye area. To buy yours, visit the eyeshadow section of the website here – there are lots to choose from!

Benecos Lipstick in the shade Catwalk – £5.56

I love this lipstick colour! It’s an orange-toned red and is such a statement lip colour. It is very nourishing on the lips and glides on with ease.

It contains beneficial and kind ingredients including Olive Oil and Avocado Oil to keep your lips feeling soft and moisturised throughout the day. It is just beautiful! To purchase your own, click here or to see what other shades are available, click here.

Overall, I am very pleased with these products and the high quality payoff I get from them. They also have fantastic longevity and didn’t need touching up throughout the day (apart from the lipstick!). I especially rate the foundation as the coverage is excellent and so natural looking. It also made my skin look silky smooth and the colour was a perfect match for my skin tone!

Visit the Benecos website here to find out more about the brand. I just know you’ll love them too!

Perfect Pout – The Natural Lip Enhancer

I was sent this nifty little gadget last week and couldn’t wait to give it a go. My top lip is pretty much non-existent and I’m really not one for surgical procedures. To be sent something that claims to increase the size of your lips, without hurting you or making permanent changes to your face is pretty cool and it looked like a lot of fun to use!

The Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer is simple and fun to use.

  1. Prep your lips with your usual lip balm
  2. Pop the device over your lips and start sucking in so that a suction is created around your lips
  3. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then remove
  4. Your lips will look fuller instantly!

Don’t fret, this is nothing like the Kylie Jenner challenge! It’s a perfectly safe and tested device. It’s not painful or uncomfortable and is easy to remove. They are available in different sizes and shapes depending on what look you want for your lips or how big your lips are naturally.

Before and After the Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer

The Perfect Pout Natural Lip Enhancer is currently available to buy at Arch Angels beauty bars in Debenhams and will soon be available to buy online. I’ll keep you updated on this!

Tropic Skincare – Makeup

Last week Hannah, a Tropic Skincare ambassador, gave me some Tropic Skincare makeup items to try out and review. There are three eyeshadows, a sculpting palette (yay!) and a lipstick.

Let’s begin with the eyeshadow palettes. These are gorgeously pigmented, blend wonderfully and have little to no fall out when applying. They contain vitamin E, chamomile, baobab oils and mineral actives which nourish your skin. Each palette also has a tutorial/look book on the back of the palette, so they’re fool proof and it’s easy for you to make use of all of the shades.

Eyeshadow Palette – Blue Masquerade

This is a deep and smokey toned eyeshadow palette including blues and greys. The four colours compliment each other perfectly. There are three shimmer shades and one matte. To purchase, click here

Eyeshadow Palette – Brown Eyed Girl

Another gorgeous little palette! This one contains three brown toned shades – two matte and one shimmer. One of them is a lovely bronze colour which gets me excited about Summer (early I know!). Don’t  be put off by the name either, this palette would suit all eye colours. To purchase, click here

Eyeshadow Palette – Wild Wisteria

This one is my personal fave, it’s so so pretty! With purple and pink tones, this palette just screams Spring and pretty dresses. I used it to create an eye look today. It’s good for blue and green eyes. To purchase, click here

Sculpting Palette – Vintage Rose

This is my favourite product that Hannah let me try. Every element of this palette is beautiful – the contour, the blush  and the highlighter. They all compliment each other perfectly and just gave me an amazing, healthy looking glow. I love the name ‘Vintage Rose‘ too!

Here’s how it looked on me – unfortunately my camera doesn’t do it justice –

Colour Click Lipstick – Peach Perfect

This lipstick has the coolest packaging! You just click the bottom of the lipstick when it’s inside its case, and it pops out! Nice to know that the lid won’t slip off in your bag. This lipstick is enriched with camellia, jojoba, avocado and argan oils which means it is beautifully creamy and moisturising. It didn’t clump on my lips or stick to dry patches, it simply covered them over and smoothed my lips out. Perfect!

Overall, I’m very happy with the makeup products in the Tropic Skincare range and I highly recommend them – especially the sculpting palette! There are other products to try, like BB creams, mascaras, foundations and brushes and much more! It’s definitely worth taking a look at Hannah’s online shop

I’d like to add that the makeup had amazing staying power, especially the eyeshadows. I’m sitting writing this now and they look as fresh as they did when I put them on this morning. I’ve been out in some eye-wateringly cold weather today too!

Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in Echelon

There’s a lot of hype online about these lip kits, they’re said to rival the Kylie ones for a fraction of the price. I can only dream of owning official Kylie Cosmetics – they’re pricey, shipping tax is ridiculous and so is the wait for them. If I can find a decent dupe though, well then I’m happy. I have here the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in the shade Echelon.

There are eight matte shades available currently – Echelon, Noble, Reign, Grandee, Royal, Regal, Glory and Magnificent.

Inside the sophisticated looking box you get a lip liner pencil and the liquid lipstick. The lipstick has a doe foot applicator – definitely my preferred applicator.

The liner pencil can be sharpened easily when it wears down. Just use a sharpener which is designed for makeup pencils.  It’s also handy to pop in a small bag to top up your lip colour on the go.

The liner pencil is beautifully creamy and glides onto the lips with ease. It does wear down quite quickly, but as mentioned earlier, it’s easy to sharpen.

Left – Liquid Lipstick ~ Right – Lip Liner

I used the pencil to line my lips only for this post. But today when I wore the product again I used it all over my lips and found the product stayed on very well because of this.

Here’s how the product looks on the lips – love it! –

These lip kits are an amazing £6. You can buy them in some Superdrug stores and online at TAM Beauty here. If you want the same shade as me, click here!

Overall, I’m pretty chuffed with this kit. I really want to try some more shades as there are some gorgeous ones in the full range.

To be honest, I just adore anything Makeup Revolution do at the moment!
