Pusheenicorn! | GUND UK

When I was asked to review a Pusheen plushie, I jumped at the opportunity. Not only do I find Pusheen adorable, I just knew Baby J would too! To be more precise, I was asked to write about Pusheenicorn – a Pusheen cat in a unicorn costume! It sounds crazy, but it works! This Pusheenicorn takes cuteness to another level and when teamed up with my Baby J, it’s too adorable to handle!

Pusheen is an extremely popular illustrated cat with over 9 million followers on Facebook. Over 10 million Pusheen stickers are sent over social media EVERY DAY as this cat is perfect at summing up whatever mood you’re in with her cute expressions and costume changes.

Pusheenicorn was sent to me by a company called GUND UK, who specialise in high-quality and unique plushies to suit everyone. Pusheenicorn has a rainbow mane of very soft synthetic fur, a stuffed rainbow tail and a holo unicorn horn (that Baby J loves to pull and chew!). She is also made of a beautifully soft fabric, which Baby J rubs on her face for comfort. She has definitely stolen this from me! The cat’s facial features are embroidered on, meaning there aren’t any small, plastic parts which could fall off and be swallowed.

To purchase your own Pusheenicorn, visit GUND UK here, or to take a look at the other Pusheens they have on offer, click here. Also, take a look at the GUND UK homepage here, they have a selection of gorgeous toys including, Peter Rabbit, Boo, Grumpy Cat, Sesame Street and other baby toys.

Transforme UK – Biotin For Hair, Skin and Nails

Before pregnancy my hair was as strong and long as a pony’s mane, my nails were as sharp as daggers and my skin, well that wasn’t too different to the average girl – hormonally challenged, sometimes dry, sometimes oily. Since having Baby J, my hair is weaker and my nails snap at the word ‘Boo’! When I was offered some Biotin supplements to try by Transforme, I couldn’t say no!

These supplements are for the improvement in the condition of your hair, skin and nails and contain coconut oil (as you all know by now – my fave thing ever!). You receive 360 capsules in a bottle (almost a year’s worth!) and you take just one a day.

These little drops of sunshine contain ingredients that not only promote hair growth they also strengthen hair and reduce hair loss! The ingredient Biotin is also known as B7 and has many health and beauty benefits for both men and women.

Some more benefits are explained in this Transforme video below:

Transforme are a UK based, family-run business and trusted brand for over 15 years. They sell first class products that are exceptional quality and excellent value for money – often 80% cheaper than high street retailers. They also sell supplements and minerals, vitamins, natural beauty products and health packs. You can search by your condition on their website and find suitable products for you too. Visit the main Transforme site here.

I have been taking the Biotin For hair, Skin and Nails supplements for over two weeks now and have been amazed with the results. My skin is really clear, just the odd (normal) imperfections here and there. I have also noticed a massive difference in my nail strength – I’m enjoying wearing nail varnish again without my nails snapping underneath and chipping the paint. My hair is glossy, thick and feeling stronger than ever – if you don’t believe me give these babies a go yourself! They are £13.99 a bottle  – a brilliant price considering you get almost a year’s worth of supplements. You can purchase them here.

Let me know your results!

Illumibowl – Motion Activated Toilet Night Light

This post may seem pretty random for a predominantly beauty blog, but I really do love this product! It’s the Illumibowl – a little night light for your toilet.

Yes, you heard me right, a night light for the loo! Let me explain why this is such a brilliant idea. Firstly, if you have little ones who regularly wake you in the night by putting on the bathroom light, or NOT putting on the bathroom light and making a mess by missing the toilet, then this light will make your sleep much more interruption free.

Secondly, I was watching my local news recently and saw a segment on a elderly care home in Colchester, Essex. The manager had installed a similar product in the en-suite toilets of the residents and it had reduced falls in the night by over 90%. Trips to A&E weren’t occurring anymore and the people living there were having much safer trips to the bathroom in the night. Find out about that here

In our home, this has been a brilliant little addition. We have an extractor fan in our en-suite which is quite noisy and is activated when the light is switched on. We were stumbling around in the dark before we got our Illumibowl because we didn’t want to wake Baby J in the night. This amazing little gadget means we don’t have to put the light on and wake her anymore.
The Illumibowl has many brilliant and innovative features –

  • It is easy to install. It has a plastic arm that goes over the toilet rim and will never fall off
  • It is motion activated so turns on as soon as you step into the bathroom. It also only comes on when it’s dark.
  • It has 8 awesome colours! You can either select a constant colour, or put them on rotation.

If you would like to purchase the Illumibowl bowl for yourself, then visit the official website here

Earth Conscious – Natural Baby Balm

Baby J has quite sensitive skin and it can be difficult to find baby creams and balms that don’t upset her skin more. When I was sent the Earth Conscious Natural Baby Balm, I was pleased to see it contained nothing harmful which wouldn’t agree with her.

Earth Conscious are a fabulous green and ethical brand. Their products are produced in the UK and use eco friendly packaging. The ingredients used in their natural deodorants and baby balms are top quality and certified.

The Baby Balm is cruelty free and vegan and contains absolutely no nasties. The ingredients are also organic. Inside the balm you will find –

  • Cocos nucifera (organic coconut oil)
  • Butyrospermum parkii (organic shea butter)
  • Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot Kernel Oil)
  • Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) wax

Baby J’s verdict? She loved it! I put it on her bottom after each nappy change and on dry patches on her arms. It didn’t irritate her skin at all and it left her feeling even more soft than usual! You get a lot of product, which means we’ll be able to use this cream for a long time. The cream absorbs wonderfully into the skin and only has a slight, pleasant scent from the coconut oil.

Another wonderful thing about the Earth Conscious Natural Baby Balm is that 10p from every sale of it goes to the Marine Conservation Society – a UK charity who help protect our seas, shores and wildlife.

Earth Conscious really are a wonderfully caring brand with a lot of heart and thought put into their products. To find out more about the wonderful things they do, click here

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed

Baby J began her weaning journey a couple of months ago now and loved her foods from the start. However, as time has gone on the recipes in our cookbooks have become more bland and not very exciting for her. When I was offered the opportunity to review an exciting collection of weaning recipes, I jumped at the chance! This book is The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed.

Zainab is the UK’s leading expert on flavour-led weaning with aromatic flavours and spices. The concept of flavour-led weaning is preparing your baby for eating more ‘grown up meals’ with the rest of the family, by using the more exciting flavours you may use in your own cooking.

wp-image-794616883jpg.jpg

The recipes contain herbs and spices which not only add more flavour to your baby’s food, but also contain added nutrients and health benefits. For example, the recipe for Chewable Teething Sticks contains nutmeg, which has eugenol in it – a natural medicine used to treat toothaches.

I use a lot of herbs and spices in my own cooking, so I am reassured now that Baby J will transition from her separate foods onto our family dinners with ease. She has loved the recipes I have cooked for her so far – especially the Zingy Pineapple Chicken! (To be honest, I loved this recipe too!)

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook by Zainab Jagot Ahmed. (Ebury Press, £14.99)

The aspect of this book which I really like is that Zainab cooked up the concept when failing to find exciting recipes for her own baby daughter, Aaliyah. I worry about Baby J not loving food, or enjoying certain vegetables because the flavours just aren’t very exciting. It is nice to find a book which has had so much thought, love and care put into it from someone who is so passionate about children loving what they eat.

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook is easy to follow with a handy baby ‘age guide’ in each chapter. I find that a lot of weaning books don’t really give you a guide on how old your baby may be when they want to try new textures and tastes, but this one makes it brilliantly clear. Each chapter also has a clear meal planner – very, very handy when it comes to shopping lists!

The book contains over 100 recipes which are easy to follow. Many can be frozen in ice cube trays too. There are also some ‘no cook’ recipes and some meals which can be enjoyed by the whole family. This book really is a gem!

The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook is due for release on 2nd March 2017. To purchase the hardback book for yourself, click here.

This amazing 3 in 1 All Weather Protector by Travel Essentials is a fabulous bit of kit. It’s a foldaway and pop up cover for the car seat attachment on your pram. It’s super easy to assemble and fit – essential when bad weather strikes.

Step 1 – Remove the protector from the handy bag and just hold on whilst it pops open into shape!

Step 2 – Slip the cover over the car seat. This is very easy to do as the ends and sides are elasticated and fit perfectly over most car seats.

Ta Dah! It’s as easy as that!

As well as being easy to set up and use, it also has some other amazing features.

There are little windows on all sides so you can see your baby and they can see you. It’s also lovely for babies to be able to have a look around whilst on the move. These windows also double up as mosquito nets – perfect for when you’re travelling.

What’s in my Superpeach ‘Carol’ Makeup Bag?

Happy Wednesday everyone! I have another exciting item from Superpeach to share with you today and it’s the Carol Makeup Bag.

Isn’t it the cutest? This bag is shaped like a giant pink fish with the added quirkiness of flappable blue fins! There are lots of makeup bags to choose from on the Superpeach site – find them here – but I chose this cutie because well, I love the weird and the wonderful! If you’d like to save a bit of money on a purchase from the site – makeup bag or otherwise – read on for my personal discount code especially for you!

When you open the bag right up, you can see the fish’s rib cage! Another funny little touch to this already endearing design.

Ever since becoming a mummy, my life has been Go! Go! Go! I always carry a little bit of makeup around with me, just in case I don’t have time to do my makeup before I go out, or if I need a top-up during the day. I thought you’d enjoy seeing what I carry around with me, so here goes!

Makeup revolution Pro Go Mini Brush Set

These brushes are very soft. They have a rose gold metal and pinky/cream coloured brush handle. In the set you get –

  • Mini foundation brush for use with liquid concealer
  • Mini Face brush to apply powder and touch-ups throughout the day
  • Mini Eyeshadow brush to touch-up or reapply eyeshadow
  • Mini Angled brush for eyeliner or brows

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch

Touche Eclat is a must-have item for your makeup bag. Some people mistakenly use this as a concealer, but it’s much better than that, it is actually better used as an instant brightener for any areas lacking radiance. Use around the eye area, along the bridge of the nose, the brow bone and Cupid’s bow.

Also pictured is the PS… high Shine Lipstick Crayon. You can read my review of that here.

Miller Harris Rose Silence Eau de Parfum

This perfume smells beautiful! The tagline reads – ‘For the intimist. A personal, reflective Sunday morning moment.’, which I feel sums the fragrance up perfectly. It has a lovely summer rose garden smell, with undertones of sandalwood and patchouli. It’s the perfect little bottle size to carry around with me.

Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream

This stuff really is magic! I burnt myself cooking a couple of weeks ago, and put this straight on the burn – it eased the pain quickly and I seemed to heal up much quicker than I normally would. It’s also perfect to use on Baby J’s skin – there are no nasties in it and is fragrance free.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24Hour Eyeshadow

I have this little pot of prettiness in the shade Pink Gold. It does what it says on the tin and does stay put all day. I normally can’t stand cream eyeshadows because they crease up on my eyelids throughout the day and wander off my face, but this one really doesn’t do that. It’s so easy to apply (if you’re naughty, you can even do it with your finger!) and it looks effortlessly beautiful. I can’t praise this product enough!

Barry M Radiant Rod Highlighter

This is a quick and easy highlighter to apply. Great for when you’re in a rush, but still want to look like a golden goddess! Apply to the usual areas, that need a bit of glow.

Benefit Posie Tint Lip and Cheek Stain

This tint is a lovely, fresh pink colour which I use as a quick blush. It can also be used on the lips, but I find it to be quite drying (I’m so sensitive!). It’s a teeny, tiny bottle, so it fits wonderfully in my bag.

wp-image-168229919jpg.jpg

And there we have it, my makeup bag has been exposed for you all to see. I haven’t included my foundation but it’s the L’Oréal True Match Foundation, which I’m ALWAYS banging on about! It really is the best. My mascara is the Soap & Glory Thick & Fast HD Mascara High Definition Collagen Coat.

If you’re on the hunt for a new makeup bag, there are plenty to choose from on the Superpeach website. Unfortunately, the Carol bag is currently sold out, but there are other fish bags to choose from. To buy a bag, just click here to visit the website. Superpeach does also have a Valentine’s section at the moment, if you’re looking for that extra special gift for a loved one. They also have a new Stationery department, with just too many beautiful things to choose from! If you’d like to save an amazing 20% off, then use this discount code – sparklewithkerry20 (expires 22/2/2017) at the checkout.

The Roper Twins: Bath Time Battles with Nan! By Cauline Thomas-Brown

Here’s another children’s book review for you lovely lot! This book is being released in March this year and is a debut children’s fiction book from the author Cauline Thomas-Brown. The Roper Twins: Bath-Time Battles with Nan is a wonderfully funny and totally relatable story for both children and adults alike!

the roper twins.png

The story is about the Roper twins – Courtney and Jade – who are regularly looked after by their Nan. They are a cheeky pair of one year olds who struggle with abiding to Nan’s bath-time rules. Children will love their antics and the way they try their hardest to get out of bath-time. I’m sure this is something many parents and grandparents can relate to!

The story contains repetition, which young children can join in with when having the story read to them. Although the story is written in third person, as a reader we are seeing things from the twin’s perspective which once again, adds to the story time experience. Each page leaves you wondering what the twins are going to do next! How can they possibly fool their Nan’s plan this time?

The book also touches on the twins transitioning from their pink, sticker-covered baby bath, to the rather large and rather scary adult tub. This is a brilliant tool for helping your little one transition from one to the other.

Nan is a no-nonsense, strong woman, determined to get the twins clean. We are constantly remind of their love for their Nan, especially when it is mentioned that she has a sore foot. However, we also see their cheeky side and how they like to annoy her!

I was fortunate enough to have some interview questions answered by the author for the purposes of this blog post, you can read the interview here.

The Amazing Adventure Begins by Pauline Mallard

Front Cover.jpgThis is the debut children’s book from Pauline Mallard. Pauline has been writing children’s stories since 2011, when she retired.

This book is about a young rabbit named Five, who is flying the nest with a positive attitude to new adventures. Along his journey he meets other field animals, who become his friends and join him on his life quest. The animals get into all sorts of scrapes and mishaps and Five is always on hand to help and support them.

A little rabbit called Five was lying in his bed dreaming of seeing the world. The more he dreamed about it the more excited he felt. “Yes,” he thought, “this is what I am going to do. What an adventure it’s going to be.”

Five.png

The story has fantastical elements, such as the fairies and the Fairy Queen. These are a lovely The Fairy Queen.png addition to the story, and will keep children guessing as to why the fairies keep popping up along Five’s adventure.

The story has so many wonderful messages across all the chapters. Five learns about friendship, trust and loyalty. He experiences fear and bravery and has many new experiences. These elements make this a fantastic book to read with your child. It is quite a long picture book at 43 pages, so can be enjoyed over a week as a bedtime story.

The book is aimed at 3-8 year old children and could be enjoyed independently by children older than this. If you’re a teacher, like myself, this book is perfect to read to your class and a lot of written and art tasks could be developed in lessons from this. I’d love to see a poem based around it!

Fox and Badger.pngThe illustrations are heavily influenced by Beatrix Potter and are absolutely beautiful. They are by Carole Gordon.

To purchase the book just visit Amazon here. It is £6.99 and would make a lovely Christmas present for that special child in your life. I’m really looking forward to sharing this with Baby J when she’s a bit older, we already have her nursery in a  woodland theme, so this book will really get her imagination running wild!

Do you have a book you’d like me to read and review?

Baby Sensory Treasure Basket

Last week my friend Emily and I took our baby girls to a first-time parenting class. There we were told about different ways to play with your baby. We were shown gorgeous sensory treasure baskets, which contained everyday items you can find around your home.

The idea of the treasure basket was created by Elinor Goldschmied, a child psychologist. They are excellent for stimulating brain development in babies and help encourage independence in children.

That night I went online and found a lady and her daughter who make and sell these baskets. I ordered one straight away because I just knew my baby J would love one.

Here’s what I received –

It contains various items like a wooden spoon, fabric, a photo album, metal egg cup, ball, scrunchie, etc.

Today I set up a play area for J and sat her on it with the basket. The TV was switched off and the room free from distractions.

A quick note – please ignore some of the blurriness in the photos, my baby is way too fast for me to catch her on camera sometimes!

I held the items up for her to look at and then held the basket near her so she could pull one out. She’s only three and a half months old, so her hand-eye coordination isn’t quite there yet.

J picked out the wooden spoon first and loved chewing on it. She’s beginning to teeth, so it must have felt lovely on her gums.

Next was the feather. I ran it over J’s face and she pulled the cutest little faces! She tried to grab it with her hands and it made her smile a lot.The colour of it caught her eye from the start.

With most of the items, J enjoyed putting them in her mouth!

This metal egg cup was also popular. I tapped it with the wooden spoon for a reverberating chime sound. J was really intrigued by this and wanted to hold the cup herself.

Here are a few more objects J enjoyed holding/chewing/playing with –

All in all I highly recommend organising a baby sensory treasure basket for your little one. You can always put one together yourself, or buy one here.

How do you play with your baby? Did you enjoy my first parenting post? Let me know!
