The Maybelline collaboration with Gigi Hadid was highly anticipated in the drugstore beauty world but unfortunately received mixed reviews. After watching many YouTube reviews and reading others, I decided to just try out the lipsticks. I chose a nude and a classic red – Taura and Austyn.
Taura is a classic nude lipstick, I would describe it as a ‘my lips but better shade’. Probably a bit more subtle than I wanted, but is nice for ‘no makeup’ looks and easy days. The formula itself is very nourishing and doesn’t dry out my lips at all. It’s described as a matte, but I’d say it’s a semi-matte.
Although this lipstick is nourishing and quite pretty, for £8.99 it is a bit of a disappointment. It is not very long wearing at all and comes off as soon as you drink/eat/kiss. I’m so sad about this!
Now, Austyn on the other hand is a lovely little lipstick. It is a bright, bold red with great pigment and much better staying power than Taura. It too is nourishing which I need in these cold months.
The red is super bright. I love the undertones of orange which make it a true festive red.
Both these lipsticks are available as lip kits and also with matching lip liner pencils. You can purchase them in Boots and Superdrug for £8.99.
Makeup Revolution released the beautiful Renaissance palettes last week, including this Night version, a Day one and a glow palette. The Day palette contains all matte shades and the Night one a mixture of one matte and four shimmer shades.
This palette came beautifully packaged in a gorgeous black box with rose gold decoration. The palette was inside a gorgeously soft pouch inside the box, which adds an extra element of luxury. The palette itself has a matte black case and a beautiful rose gold clasp, which I’ve never seen on a palette before.
Inside the case lid is a mirror – I love Makeup Revolution for this – and a double-ended brush. The shades themselves are beautiful. The matte colour is a white, perfect for highlighting the brow bone, as I did today. The pink and bronze tones are intensely shimmery and pigmented. The final two shades have reflective glitters in them and are stunning.
I created an eye look today using a majority of the shades in the palette –
Use the matte white to highlight the centre of the brow bone
The lighter brown on the outer V and slightly into the crease, also along the lower lash line
The copper tone over the rest of the lid and along the inner part of the lower lash line
The light pink on inner corners as a highlight
The shades in the palette are very easy to work with and blend. I experienced little to no fall out. The shadows are of a very high quality.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this palette. The packaging is stunning and compact enough to travel with. I also think this palette would make a brilliant gift.
There’s a lot of hype online about these lip kits, they’re said to rival the Kylie ones for a fraction of the price. I can only dream of owning official Kylie Cosmetics – they’re pricey, shipping tax is ridiculous and so is the wait for them. If I can find a decent dupe though, well then I’m happy. I have here the Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit in the shade Echelon.
Welcome to part 2 of my Primark Beauty Haul. You can find part 1 here if you didn’t see it on Saturday. Today we’re focusing on the PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon in the shade ‘Mushroom’.
As is my usual style, I opted for a nude shade. I absolutely loved the swatch I did in store. I also really like the crayon applicator; a far cry from my usual liquid matte lipsticks.
It’s a mauve/taupe colour which I find stunning. It really is the colour of the moment and is quickly becoming a classic lip colour. The shade really reminds me of my favourite Mac colour ‘Brave’, which I purchased a couple of years ago when Kylie Jenner and her iconic lips first appeared on the scene.
As is always the way, the colour looks so different on my lips! Do you guys ever have this issue? A colour will look perfect on my hand, but once on my lips, it totally changes! I suppose it depends on your actual lip colour to start with. Saying that, I still love how it looks on.
The lipstick has a soft and moisturising consistency and glides on easily. The crayon means you can take your time with precision application. It didn’t dry my lips during the day and it had pretty good staying power. I did top it up after eating my lunch, but that’s because I wanted it to look nice for our guests this evening!
Overall, I’m happy with this particular Primark purchase. The nail varnishes impressed me also – Primark, you’re on a roll!
I was excited to give nude ombre lips a go as I have a nice little collection of nude matte lipsticks now. (I also have ombre hair and want to match my lips to it – so cool!)
For this look I used:
Barry M Lip Liner – 17 Blush
NYX Lip Lingerie – Bedtime Flirt
NYX Lip Lingerie – Push-Up
The key to achieving this look is to blend, blend, blend! At each stage, gently rub your lips together to blend the colours together, eliminating any harsh lines for a more natural look.
I began by lightly brushing some of my foundation over my lips for a smoother base to work with.
Next I lined my lips with Barry M Lip Liner in 17 Blush. I then filled it in slightly.
I next applied the lighter colour of NYX Lip Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt to the inner parts of my lips. You can already see the ombre beginning to take shape! Remember to blend now.
The final step is to apply NYX Lip Lingerie in Push-Up to the centre of the lips and blend again. Here’s what it looks like when complete –
What do you think of the ombre Lip trend? Have you had a go before and do you have a photo to share?
This week Models Own released their Dare to Bare collection. It contains nude lipsticks and hyper gel nail polishes, an eyeshadow palette and a finishing powder. I ordered myself the palette and a nail polish. They arrived in the gorgeous box you can see above in the featured image and wrapped in the coolest tissue paper! If you want to buy any of the items, click the names of the products and it’ll take you straight to the website.
I got the shade ‘Suede’ which has a gorgeous pinky tint to it. The polish is known as a Hyper Gel and claims to have the effect of a gel polish. It does look super shiny on my nails and was very easy to apply. It has a good shaped brush and you could definitely get away with just one layer of the product. There are five shades in total to choose from in this range. I had a nightmare trying to pick just one!
The box itself is gorgeous, but then take a look at the outside casing of the palette!
Here are the shades in the palette –
They are all matte and beautifully subtle. I wasn’t sure if be a fan as I love a good, dramatic eye look, but these really impressed me. I decided to team them up with a red lipstick for a real statement. I like to wear pinky and brown tones as they work well with my blue eyes. Here’s the completed look –
Welcome to part 2 of my review of the SEVENTEEN Mega Matte Lipsticks. These lipsticks are currently on offer in Boots stores and online at £3.49. The colours I will be reviewing today are –
This ismy favourite of the three colours today. It’s such a rich, beautiful colour which went on my lips easily. You don’t need too much of this product either as it’s very pigmented.
I wore this lipstick on the weekend, when I visited my family, with my beautiful daisy print Pretty Little Poppet playsuit. It was the perfect summer combination!
The Coral of the Story
This is a very cute colour. It’s the kind of colour I would wear on a daily basis as I love pinks. I will also be pairing this with one of the looks from the Too Faced Totally Cute palette, so keep your eyes peeled for that post!
I think it would go perfectly with my fun H&M dinosaur sweatshirt and some casual jeans for a laid back look.
This is a lovely, subtle colour. It has a hint of pink and is very close to my original lip colour.
I wore this shade yesterday and here’s the completed look. I went for green tones on my eyes using the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette and a subtle shimmer on my cheeks using the Natural Collection Highlighting Stick (see my previous review).
For my outfit, I decided to mix patterns with my stripey, unicorn embroidered H&M t-shirt and my toadstool print Cath Kidston skirt. I feel the lipstick colour really makes the unicorn colours pop – can you see what I mean?
Thank you once again for reading my review of these lovely lipsticks. They’re definitely worth every penny as they are available in many gorgeous colours and have excellent staying power.
Have you purchased any? Are there any other products you recommend by SEVENTEEN?
This new lipstick duo is just fabulous! I love the whole concept of one neutral colour for the day time and a bolder colour for the night – all in one product! I purchased the shade ‘Graphic Minimalist’ which was designed by a pair of my favourite YouTubers Tracy and Stef of EleventhGorgeous.
I especially love this daytime shade as I’m really enjoying the nude colours for lips at the moment.
The night time shade will be perfect for my first wedding anniversary celebrations this weekend. Win!
