NYX Love you so Mochi Eyeshadow Palette | Electric Pastels | Review and Swatches

I’m a bit of a sucker for all things Japanese inspired… Pokemon is a secret, excruciatingly nerdy love of mine. So these cool mochi inspired palettes from NYX really got me excited. Mochi are a squishy Japanese snack and do you know why NYX named their palettes after them? The products themselves are actually squishy too! There are two highlighter palettes and two eyeshadow palettes. I was drawn to the brights of this eyeshadow palette called Electric Pastels and just couldn’t wait to review it for you!

The colours are just so vivid and STUNNING and quite out of my comfort zone too. The other eyeshadow palette, called Sleek and Chic, is beautiful in its own right but quite muted and a lot like other palettes I already own.

The palette is a nice size and contains ten shimmer eyeshadows. It has a clear lid with the name of the palette written on the front in a eye-catching font. The word ‘Mochi’ is actually holographic which is a nice effect and goes well with the theme of the palette.

I love the range of colours in this palette – such a gorgeous variety of electric tones. Very eighties, very pretty.

I swatched each shade by swirling my finger over the shadow a couple of times and blending the colour down my arm. The shadows felt almost wet to the touch and very soft. I was quite impressed with the consistency actually and could tell they would be a dream to apply and blend.

I tried the eyeshadows out on the eyes today, using brushes. Although they are not as vibrant when applied with the brush, this isn’t a bad thing. It meant that I didn’t apply too much and regret my decision! I could gradually build up the colours and control the pigmentation on my eyes. I went safe with the lighter colours and the peach – I’ll one day pluck up the courage to go bolder!

I suppose the main reason you came here was to see how squishy these shadows really are? Well here you go…

There’s also a video of this on my Instagram highlights, in ‘Beauty Faves’.

I purchased my palette from Cult Beauty here, but you can also get it from the NYX website here. View the whole NYX Mochi range here.

Makeup in a Hurry! (Featuring the Primark PS… Foundation Stick)

This tutorial was requested by my good friend Emily. She wanted me to have a go at a look which can be achieved in minimal time before rushing off to work or to somewhere else of importance.

To begin with, I cleansed and moisturised my face as usual. I also applied a primer, to keep my makeup in place all day – very handy if you’re busy at work.

On the weekend, I popped into my local Primark to check out their makeup (again!) and saw their foundation sticks. I didn’t own a stick foundation, until this one. It was an amazing £2 and I thought it would be perfect for this post because it’s much faster to use than liquid foundation.

I put it over my face and then blended it out with my Real Techniques Foundation Brush. I’m really pleased with the coverage actually and it lasted all day. For £2, you really can’t go wrong.

Now for the eyes! I used a beautiful neutrals palette by Makeup Revolution. It was in my 12 Days of Christmas set.

I firstly put this lovely neural shade all over my lids with a fluffy eye brush –

Next I used a medium-dark brown in my crease –

Finally, I put a slight shimmer in the inner corners, using this pretty pink shade –

If you’re looking to be speedy, it’s important to find a decent concealer, that will blend out easily when you’re in a rush, but also give you amazing coverage. I use the L’Oreal True Match Concealer and it is fabulous. A little goes a long way with this one.

For speedy eyebrows, I use my old favourite the Collection Eyebrow Definer Pencil in Blonde and then go over this with the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel in Medium Brown to tidy my lashes up and hold them in place.

My favourite, go to blush has to be Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop. I wear this most days actually as it is just beautiful and makes my skin look so healthy. It’s definitely worth investing in one of these as they last ages and are perfectly portable.

Finally, to give my skin glow which makes me feel like I woke up like this I use Too Faced’s Candlelight Glow in Rosy Glow. This is another regular favourite of mine – as you can see from the pan reveal!

I decided to use a mascara which has instant impact and quick and easy application, and this is the Aldi Lacura Beauty 3D Effect Mascara.

To complete the look, I used the NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bedtime Flirt. This stuff has amazing staying power and the applicator makes it so easy to apply. Another fantastic makeup product, definitely worth buying.

And there we have it! A quick, easy and low budget look to create! The only exception to the low budget is the Too Faced Candlelight Glow – but there are plenty of dupes out there. I hope this helps and I hope you love it Emily – definitely need to see you with this look now! If you too have a makeup tutorial suggestion, please let me know. I’d love to have a go!

Mum’s Christmas Makeup Look

When my Mum asked me to have a go at her makeup, I felt so excited! She’s the perfect person to practice the skills I’ve been studying on my Makeup Artistry course. I had to bear a few things in mind whilst I made my plan –

  • This is a Christmas party look, so it had to have a bit of classy sparkle somewhere!
  • Mum has green eyes, so I checked the colour wheel to see which colours complimented this and went for purples and burgundies.
  • Mum is a bit older than me, so really won’t appreciate unicorn highlighter and false eyelashes!
  • I asked Mum to bring her own foundation so that it was a perfect match for her skin tone and type.

After going through the plan with Mum, we decided not to use the Grav3yard Girl Swamp Queen Palette shade ‘Mancat’ as I previously planned, and opted for NYX Single Shadow in ‘Addiction’ instead as it had a bit more shimmer to it and a dramatic look.

Here is Mum’s before photo –

We began by cleansing, toning, moisturising and finally priming the skin.

MoisturiserBio Extracts Light Face Cream mixed with the Glow Booster

Primer – Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

Next was foundation, Max Factor Colour Adapt in 70 Natural (Mum’s own) –

My favourite part now! I used the Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer on Mum’s eyes and got to work on the eyeshadow look I’d planned for her.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette –

  1. Peaches n’ Cream all over the lid and brow bone
  2. Georgia over the lid
  3. Bellini in the centre of the lid
  4. Luscious in inner corner
  5. Peach Pit along lower lash line

NYX Hot Singles Shadow in Shade ‘Addiction’ in outer half of lid. I concealed under the eyes with the Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer.

Next up, brows! I was particularly pleased with this as I think they changed Mum’s face completely! I used the Collection Eyebrow Define in Blonde.

I used the Collection Precision Contouring Stick just under Mum’s cheekbones. I didn’t want to go overboard on this because I think Mum has a lovely bone structure, without me having to cut it even more with contour. I also used Makeup Revolution’s Golden Sugar Blush Palette on the apples of the cheeks in the third shade along the top row. To add a subtle highlight, I applied the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in shade 001 Light.

The combination is gorgeous, don’t you think?

Now onto the lips, I wanted a subtle purple colour to make Mum’s eyes pop even more. We went for the Lancome Juicy Shaker in Berry in Love (smells delicious too!).

To complete the look, Mum applied her own mascara. Mum absolutely loves the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara, she says she doesn’t get panda eyes with it and it stays on all day. Definitely one I want to have a go with!

Here is the completed look! Ta Dah!

Doesn’t she look beautiful? I’m so pleased with how everything came out and Mum was happy too! Mum’s eyes definitely look greener and larger and she’s definietly ready to party at Christmas!

How to: The Perfect Pink Ombré Lips using NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

After having so much fun having a go at nude ombré lips yesterday, I thought I’d have a go at a pink look!

For this look I used:

  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream – Prague
  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream – Istanbul

I began with clean, exfoliated and dry lips.

Next I applied NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague around my lip line and then filled it in slightly.

The final step was to fill in the middle part of the lips with NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul. As I said yesterday, the key to ombre lips is to blend, blend, blend! Put your lips together a rub gently, for a more natural and blended look.

So, what do you think? Have you tried ombre lips yet? It’s so much fun!

How to: The Perfect Nude Ombré Lips Using NYX Lip Lingerie and Barry M Lip Liner

I was excited to give nude ombre lips a go as I have a nice little collection of nude matte lipsticks now. (I also have ombre hair and want to match my lips to it – so cool!)

For this look I used:

  • Barry M Lip Liner – 17 Blush
  • NYX Lip Lingerie – Bedtime Flirt
  • NYX Lip Lingerie – Push-Up

The key to achieving this look is to blend, blend, blend! At each stage, gently rub your lips together to blend the colours together, eliminating any harsh lines for a more natural look.
I began by lightly brushing some of my foundation over my lips for a smoother base to work with.

Next I lined my lips with Barry M Lip Liner in 17 Blush. I then filled it in slightly.

I next applied the lighter colour of NYX Lip Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt to the inner parts of my lips. You can already see the ombre beginning to take shape! Remember to blend now

The final step is to apply NYX Lip Lingerie in Push-Up to the centre of the lips and blend again. Here’s what it looks like when complete –

What do you think of the ombre Lip trend? Have you had a go before and do you have a photo to share?

Beauty Product Review – NYX Strobe of Genius

Yesterday I purchased this gorgeous NYX Strobe of Genius palette. It contains many shades to give you the perfect highlight. I’ve been watching many YouTube tutorials on strobing and have been keen to give it a go.

I’m particularly intrigued by the lilac shade in this palette – I think it would be wonderful in the winter around Christmas (sorry I just said the ‘C’ word!) as it is has a cool tone. There are some lovely rose gold sections in the palette too and also some bronze ones. Right, let’s show you some swatches!

Top row of palette, highlighters from left to right
Bottom row of palette, highlighters from left to right

I’m really impressed with the variety of shades and also how sparkley they are! I’m definitely going to be using these as eyeshadow too as they’ll look beautiful in this amazing sunshine we’re having recently. Here’s how I used the palette today –

I layered up the shade on the furthest right, bottom row with the pinky toned one on the top row on the top of my cheeks. I also used the pinky tones on my nose, Cupid’s bow and chin. You can’t see in the photo, but I used one of the bronze tones to highlight along my hair line on my forehead.

I was very subtle with this because the powders are super pigmented and I didn’t want to go too crazy! I’m a bit of a whimp like that! It’s made me realise I really need to invest in a decent fan brush as none of my brushes were really suitable for the application of the product.

Overall I’m very pleased! The colours are so pretty, I can’t wait to try them all out! For the darker shades on the bottom row, I’ll probably use them as an eyeshadow as my skin is quite fair and they might not look right on my cheeks, etc.

Have you tried out the strobing trend?
