Makeup in a Hurry! (Featuring the Primark PS… Foundation Stick)

This tutorial was requested by my good friend Emily. She wanted me to have a go at a look which can be achieved in minimal time before rushing off to work or to somewhere else of importance.

To begin with, I cleansed and moisturised my face as usual. I also applied a primer, to keep my makeup in place all day – very handy if you’re busy at work.

On the weekend, I popped into my local Primark to check out their makeup (again!) and saw their foundation sticks. I didn’t own a stick foundation, until this one. It was an amazing £2 and I thought it would be perfect for this post because it’s much faster to use than liquid foundation.

I put it over my face and then blended it out with my Real Techniques Foundation Brush. I’m really pleased with the coverage actually and it lasted all day. For £2, you really can’t go wrong.

Now for the eyes! I used a beautiful neutrals palette by Makeup Revolution. It was in my 12 Days of Christmas set.

I firstly put this lovely neural shade all over my lids with a fluffy eye brush –

Next I used a medium-dark brown in my crease –

Finally, I put a slight shimmer in the inner corners, using this pretty pink shade –

If you’re looking to be speedy, it’s important to find a decent concealer, that will blend out easily when you’re in a rush, but also give you amazing coverage. I use the L’Oreal True Match Concealer and it is fabulous. A little goes a long way with this one.

For speedy eyebrows, I use my old favourite the Collection Eyebrow Definer Pencil in Blonde and then go over this with the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel in Medium Brown to tidy my lashes up and hold them in place.

My favourite, go to blush has to be Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop. I wear this most days actually as it is just beautiful and makes my skin look so healthy. It’s definitely worth investing in one of these as they last ages and are perfectly portable.

Finally, to give my skin glow which makes me feel like I woke up like this I use Too Faced’s Candlelight Glow in Rosy Glow. This is another regular favourite of mine – as you can see from the pan reveal!

I decided to use a mascara which has instant impact and quick and easy application, and this is the Aldi Lacura Beauty 3D Effect Mascara.

To complete the look, I used the NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bedtime Flirt. This stuff has amazing staying power and the applicator makes it so easy to apply. Another fantastic makeup product, definitely worth buying.

And there we have it! A quick, easy and low budget look to create! The only exception to the low budget is the Too Faced Candlelight Glow – but there are plenty of dupes out there. I hope this helps and I hope you love it Emily – definitely need to see you with this look now! If you too have a makeup tutorial suggestion, please let me know. I’d love to have a go!

Primark Beauty Haul – Part 3 ~ PS… High Shine Lipstick Crayon in Rose Quartz

Hey guys! Thanks for joining me for part 3 of my Primark Beauty Haul! You can find part 1 here and part 2 here. Today I’m going to be swatching  and reviewing the PS… High Shine Lipstick Crayon in the shade Rose Quartz. This was actually one of the first products I picked up in store. They have some beautifully packaged rose gold items in the range at the moment and this one really stood out. I also thought it was about time I reviewed a lipstick that wasn’t matte!

Once again, this has a crayon style applicator and is a push up lipstick.

It’s quite a dark rose colour, which I like. When I think rose quartz though, I always think of something a lot lighter than this lipstick. It’s still very pretty though.

The lipstick glides on smoothly and is easy to apply with the crayon tip. I also found this product to be very moisturising and not clumpy on my lips. As I find with most shiny lipsticks, the staying power isn’t great, but I’ve not really come to expect it to be.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with this lipstick. I love the colour, but won’t wear it very often. I do just prefer matte lips! I also find that lipstick transfers too much – and I have a lot of kisses to give Baby J!

This lipstick is available in stores for £2.00.

Primark Beauty Haul – Part 2 ~ PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon in Mushroom

Welcome to part 2 of my Primark Beauty Haul. You can find part 1 here if you didn’t see it on Saturday. Today we’re focusing on the PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon in the shade ‘Mushroom’.

As is my usual style, I opted for a nude shade. I absolutely loved the swatch I did in store. I also really like the crayon applicator; a far cry from my usual liquid matte lipsticks.

It’s a mauve/taupe colour which I find stunning. It really is the colour of the moment and is quickly becoming a classic lip colour. The shade really reminds me of my favourite Mac colour ‘Brave’, which I purchased a couple of years ago when Kylie Jenner and her iconic lips first appeared on the scene.

As is always the way, the colour looks so different on my lips! Do you guys ever have this issue? A colour will look perfect on my hand, but once on my lips, it totally changes! I suppose it depends on your actual lip colour to start with. Saying that, I still love how it looks on.

The lipstick has a soft and moisturising consistency and glides on easily. The crayon means you can take your time with precision application. It didn’t dry my lips during the day and it had pretty good staying power. I did top it up after eating my lunch, but that’s because I wanted it to look nice for our guests this evening!

Overall, I’m happy with this particular Primark purchase. The nail varnishes impressed me also – Primark, you’re on a roll!

Primark Beauty Haul – Part 1 ~ PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish

Yesterday I popped into Primark to purchase a few beauty goodies and thought I’d review them for you here on Sparkle with Kerry. I bought –

  • PS… Round Cosmetic Pads (50p for 120)
  • PS… Top and Base Coat (£1)
  • PS… Nail Polish Remover (£1)
  • PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish x 2 (£1.50 each)
  • PS… 2PK Blender Sponges (£1.50)
  • PS… Stardust Eye Pigment Pots (£2.50)
  • PS… Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon (£2)
  • PS… High Shine Lipstick Crayon (£2)
  • PS… Love to Glow Instant Radiance Serum

I’ve broken the review down into four parts because I thought it would be better to focus on the particularly exciting products. Today we’re looking at the PS… Satin Matte Nail Polishes.

These babies are £1.50 each and come in a gorgeous range of muted colours. I don’t have any matte nail polishes, so wanted to try these out. I was worried it would just look like I’d bashed my wet nails on a fabric surface and smudged the paint, but I was so wrong! They look really gorgeous and also feel beautifully smooth and soft. The matte finish I feel, looks very sophisticated.

PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish in Bisque

PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish in Bisque

Please excuse my terrible polish work! My nails are in an awful state at the moment, they’re very weak (oh the joys of post pregnancy!).

This colour is absolutely beautiful. It has lilac undertones with grey. I think the matte finish actually adds to the colour, as it wouldn’t look anywhere near as stunning if it were glossy.

PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish in Burnt Umber

PS… Satin Matte Nail Polish in Burnt Umber

This is a rusty, muted auburn colour. I love this nude shade and feel it goes with a lot of my clothing options. Today I’m wearing a camo green dress and this colour really compliments it.

I painted my nails last night with these polishes and so far I’ve had no chips. I already had a broken nail when I started and the colour hasn’t chipped from this nail either. You can probably tell how pleased I am with these! There are a few other shades available, which you can view on the Primark website here. Unfortunately, you can’t buy from the website, but there should be plenty available in stores.

Do you own any Primark PS… Polishes?

Happy New Year 2017!

Wow, I can’t believe we’re in January already! I hope you all had a lovely New Year’s Eve and you’re chilling out and enjoying today. 2016 saw this blog reinvent itself and grow and I’ve loved every minute of writing it.

This year has been an emotional roller coaster and I won’t go into details about this because that’s not what this blog is about and talking about my personal life is not something I do, but I just wanted to say a big thank you for supporting it. All your comments, shares and ‘likes’ really make it all worthwhile and really spurs me on. A special mention to Gareth, my Mum, my sister Emma, Emily and her sister Charlotte, Natasha, Hollie and Leanne for being so kind about what I do and encouraging me to do more.

That’s enough of the soppy stuff! I thought I’d share my New Year’s Eve makeup look with you.

Face –

  • Barry M Colour Correcting Primer
  • L’Oréal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oréal True Match Powder
  • L’Oréal True Match Concealer

Eyes –

  • Morphe 35N Eyeshadow Palette – I used a pink shade all over the lid and black on the outer corners and lower lash line, forming a cat eye
  • Too Faced Nikkie Tutorials kit glitter over the top of the pink shade

  • Mascara was my old fave, Primark’s PS Pro High Definition Mascara
Yes, I wore cat ears! Why not, hey?

Lips –

I used the darkest shade of the Makeup Revolution Lip Gloss Nude Edit which came in my 12 Days of Christmas box. I made the gloss matte (look out for a blog post on how to do this tomorrow!)

Blush, Contour and Highlight –

  • Blush – Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette in a pink shade
  • Contour – from the Tanya Burr Peachy Glow palette
  • Highlight – Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild

And there we have it! I’m especially pleased with my eyeshadow work this time and I put that down to my brilliant Spectrum set of brushes from my husband.

Tell me all about your NYE!

Christmas Party Makeup

Oh my goodness, Christmas is only six days away! It’s extra exciting for us this year because we have Baby J in our lives. She has no idea what’s going on, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited, right?!

We had a Christmas party this weekend which meant, woohoo, time to spend time on my makeup! I took photos of all the products I used and selfies at different steps of the process. I hope you like my mini tutorial!

Here’s my before photo (please excuse my monstrous eyebrows!) –

Prepping My Face

Eye Makeup

  • I firstly primed my eyes with the Mac Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in the shade ‘Painterly’. This stuff is amazing! It perfectly matches the skin on the eyelid and disguises any veins or discolouration and keeps your eyeshadow in place at the same time!
  • For my eyeshadow I used the Too Faced Nikkie Tutorials ‘The Power of Makeup Palette’. I used the shades as follows –
    • Irresistible (Gold) in the inner corners
    • Frosted Yum (Silver) on the rest of the lid
    • Wanted (Black) on the outer corners, forming a mini cat eye
  • Over the top of Frosted Yum I used the Too Faced glitter pot which came with the Nikkie Tutorials palette. I picked the glitter up on my brush using a bit of primer as ‘glue’

  • Now for the really exciting part! Over the gold shade – Irresistible – I used some large glitter from my Dust & Dance pot of gold glitter. Once again I used primer as a ‘glue’.

Fixing and Baking!

  • To fix my foundation I used the L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Powder
  • To bake my under eye, I used the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Loose Powder. If you’re unsure of what baking is – it is where you leave a powder on under the eyes for at least ten minutes to set. This will stop under eye creases in your foundation and concealer and will also brighten, depending on what powder you use. You can also do this over your nose and in other areas you wish to brighten.

Contour, Blush and Highlight

  • I contoured with the shade Chocolate Soleil from the Nikkie Tutorials palette
  • Blush was the rose gold shade from the top row of the Makeup Revolution Pro Blush Palette in Golden Sugar

I decided not to go with glitter lips, as I felt it may be sparkle overload! I went with a Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in the shade Moon (and no, it’s not a real one, its a brilliant dupe from eBay!)

And this is the finished look! What do you think? I felt so glamorous and got lots of compliments on the inner corner eye glitter.

Here’s the before and after side-by-side –

Thank you for reading my tutorial, I’d love to know if you have a go yourself, or take any ideas from my look. Please send photos, I love them! Or you can alternatively tag me in them on Instagram – @sparkle.with.kerry

Primark PS… Ombre Lips in Love Bite

Here we go again, another Fab or Fad post! Once again, I’m sticking with the lips and this time it’s the Primark PS… Ombre Lips in the shade Love Bite.

At only £2, this mini palette filled me with a combination of excitement, intrigue and fear of the unknown. I’m always up for getting creative with my makeup and have previously posted about how to create ombre lips, but haven’t reviewed a kit before. The colours were pretty scary too!

Keeping my enthusiasm high and my attitude positive, I set to work. I did my full face of makeup  and set a base on my lips. As per the very detailed (not!) instructions, I lined my lips with the darkest shade.

*Note the half smile on my lips and how this fades along the process/photos*

Once I’d picked myself up off of the floor, it was time for shade two…

What a beautiful mess. Shade three really was the cherry on top.

This product is nasty! It’s a nightmare to apply, it’s patchy and I really don’t know who it would look good on!

Here’s a picture of me trying to look cool with it on my mouth and failing horrifically.

And now for my verdict, is it any surprise? – FAD!

Yuck, yuck and double yuck! Don’t buy it. Primark do some really awesome makeup (like the mascara I previously reviewed) and makeup tools. I am so disappointed by this product. I’m hoping to salvage it by using the lighter colour on it’s own, or maybe using it next Halloween as part of a zombie get up.

Budget Beauty – P.S PRO Mascara from Primark

Here’s a quick post just to share my recent super Budget Beauty find. It’s the P.S PRO High Definition Mascara from Primark. It’s a bargain at £3.

This mascara really delivers. I can definitely see a big difference in the length and volume of my eyelashes. The formulation is easy to apply and doesn’t smudge. The applicator is great – I prefer this type as they don’t have long bristles that hit your eyelids and make a mess!

Here’s the mascara applied to one eye only.

And both eyes –

And here’s a selfie just because I was pleased with the outcome!

Do you use any Primark products? Do you have a particular favourite? I’d love to hear from you!

Beauty Product Review – SEVENTEEN Mega Matte Lipsticks (Part 1)

Colours from Left to Right – The Coral of the Story, I Lilac it a lot, Looking Buff, violet Summer, No Corals, Nude News
Let’s all just take a moment to appreciate the BEAUTIFUL colours above…

Aren’t they just stunning? I had some Boots Advantage Card points to spend this week so decided to treat myself to six of the SEVENTEEN Mega Matte Lipsticks. I have spread my review of these lipsticks over two posts as I wanted to do things a bit differently and show you what item of clothing I would team each colour with.

SEVENTEEN uploaded this very handy colour wheel on their Twitter this week. So check it out and see which colours suit your skin tone.

The three colours I’m going to review today are –

I Lilac it a Lot

This is the first purple toned lipstick I’ve ever bought and I was really excited to try it. It’s a good summer colour perfect for daywear. Here’s how it looks on me –

I’d team this lipstick with my lovely dress made by Sophie of Pretty Little Poppet and my coral ballet pumps from Primark.

Looking Buff

This is definitely my favourite of the three shades in this review and is very Kylie Jenner. This shade would go perfectly with any outfit to be honest as it’s so neutral.

No Corals

This colour is so bright and cheerful!

I wore it yesterday for afternoon tea with my friends and needed hardly any other colour on my face as this lipstick did all the talking! I also have to say that it also has excellent staying power. I put it on at around 11am and it was still on before I took it off at 9pm. I wore it with this awesome dress and shoes combo from New Look –

And here’s my finished make up look –

Thank you once again for reading my post. Look out for part 2 coming in the next couple of days, where I will be reviewing the shades The Coral of the Story, Violet Summer and Nude News. The lipsticks are available in store and online at and are currently on offer at £3.49 – bargain!
