I Heart Makeup Chocolate Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette | Review and Swatches

Oh Makeup Revolution, you’ve done it again! Another beautiful eyeshadow palette that I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on. As soon as photos were released of the inside of this palette, it was love at first sight. First up, this palette screams Huda Beauty dupe (and who doesn’t love an affordable dupe?) and secondly, I love me a bit of rose gold.

This beautiful, chococlate themed palette comes from I Heart Makeup, a sister brand of Makeup Revolution and also sold on the TAM Beauty website. The palette came in a cute chocolate bar wrapper style box, which was rose gold too. The casing itself is a good sturdy plastic and I love the rose gold chocolate dripping down the front. Inside is a generous mirror and then your 16 STUNNING eyeshadow shades. Bonus: This palette smells like a Kinder Bueno bar! I can’t stop sniffing it!

There are a good varierty of finishes to the eyeshadows. A few lovely matte transition shades, some shimmers and some pressed glitters. I’ve not seen pressed glitters in a Makeup Revolution palette before, but I’m very impressed with them. These types of shadows are quite difficult to produce but these have been done well and are bloody pigmented! I apply them with my finger for full impact! You could also use them with a wet brush. The palette does come with a plastic sheet with all the names of the shades on it too.

Swatches taken in Natural Light

Today I used the palette to create a quick and easy halo eye. Here’s how –

  • Independent (bone colour) all over the lid to set my primer
  • Uh-oh (light, red/brown) in the crease
  • Girl Boss (Pinky brown) on outer edge of crease
  • Side-Chick (red) on outer and inner lid, blended through the crease to help form the halo
  • Barbie (shimmer shade, pink with gold reflect) in the centre of the eyelid
  • Hard Work (pressed gold) dabbed lightly on very centre of eyelid
  • Girl Boss and Side-Chick on lower lash line

This is another beautiful and extremely affordable palette, perfect for the Autumn. The colours are pigmented, blendable and a dream to work with. It helps that the packaging is completely beautiful too!

W7 Delicious Natural & Berry Eye Colour Palette | Review, Tutorial and Swatches

I love a good dupe when I see one and so far, this has to be the most interesting one I’ve come across. This W7 Delicious eyeshadow palette is such a good dupe for the Anastasia Beverley Hills Modern Renaissance palette that it might actually be a bit naughty!

The ABH Modern Renaissance palette is one I can only dream about owning (or hope that someone close to me reads this post and surprises me with it!) so when I saw that the very affordable high-street brand W7 had released this little beauty, I was intrigued to give it a go.

The palette comes in simple cardboard packaging with a mirror inside and includes a brush. The brush is also a replica of the ABH one too, with a fluffy brush one end and a smudging brush the other. There are twelve eyeshadows inside – 4 shimmers and 8 mattes. Upon swatching, I found some to be much more pigmented than others. The palest shade is pretty much non-existent on my skin, so isn’t visible in the swatch photo. Some of the colours are also quite chalky. However, upon using the palette, I was impressed with how pigmented the darker colours were and how well they blended.

Here’s a simple tutorial for an every day look using the palette –

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And here’s the finished look!

The shadows lasted very well throughout the day and are still going strong now. I used my MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as a base/primer and the shadows have stayed put without creasing.

Do I think this is a decent dupe for the ABH palette? If you’re on a tight budget like me and can’t justify spending so much on some eyeshadow – then yes, this is a brilliant substitute! When it’s on your eyes, who’s going to know the difference, hey?

I ordered this palette direct through the W7 website here and it cost £12.95.

Lavera | Natural, Organic and Vegan Beauty Products

I have been in contact with Ingrid Hume from Pravera for a while now and she has kindly sent out some high-quality and beautiful natural products to me. You may have previously read my post on Benecos Cosmetics (if not, click here) where I gave them a glowing review. Now it’s the turn of the brand Lavera – a natural, organic and vegan beauty brand.

I created the look pictured below, using the products I was sent. Here’s a run down of everything I used and how I used it.

Lavera Illuminating Eyeshadow Quattro Indian Dream 03 – 4 x 0.5g

This eyeshadow quad is just STUNNING. My mind went into overdrive when thinking of all the looks I could create using just these four colours. I love the mix or peachy pinks and golds with khaki greens. They just match beautifully. I’m really into khaki eye makeup at the moment, so was very excited to try this out.

Here I created a very simple look using the mini palette. I used my Benecos single eyeshadow in Mauve in the crease, as I like to use matte shades there. I then used the pink colour over three quarters of my lid, starting from the inner corner. On the outer corner I used the peachy/gold tone. Along the lower last line I used a tiny amount of both of the green/gold colours.

Lavera Mineral Sun Glow Powder Duo – Golden Sahara 01 – 9g

This bronzer has a beautiful texture and consistency and blends like a dream. The colour is very buildable and I would say it looks much darker in the pan than it actually is. You can use the colours singly, or swirl them together with a brush. I mix them together as I find this to be the perfect match for my skin tone. I applied the bronzer just below the cheek bones, around the forehead and perimeter of my face. I love how glowy it made me look!

Left to right- lightest shade, darkest shade, both mixed together

Lavera Organic Highlighter 4g – 03 Golden Shine

Wow, this little highlighter really packs a big punch! It is a cream product, so is best used before a powder. I have particularly enjoyed this on no-foundation days as it gives me maximum glow without all the other products. It’s been brilliant on these hot days we’ve been having. I applied the highlighter to the usual places where a glow is very welcome – cheekbones, bridge and end of nose, Cupid’s bow and brow bone.

Lavera So Fresh Rouge Powder – Plum Blossom 02

Sorry guys, but here’s another product I just LOVE! I really don’t have anything negative to say about any of the Lavera products I’ve tried. This blush is pigmented, creamy, buildable and easy to blend out. It looks just stunning on the cheeks for that ‘glowing from within’ look. It is a plum toned powder, with a shimmer. I applied this to the apples of my cheeks.

I’m so pleased with how these products transferred onto my face. They have brilliant staying power too – I’ve even been for a run this evening and the eyeshadows haven’t creased! These are lovingly made, high-quality beauty items. I’m excited to try more from the range. Lavera also have skin, bath, baby, men’s, dental and other products to name just a few. Definitely check them out on Pravera here.

What do you think of my finished look?

Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Night | Review, Tutorial and Swatches

Makeup Revolution released the beautiful Renaissance palettes last week, including this Night version, a Day one and a glow palette. The Day palette contains all matte shades and the Night one a mixture of one matte and four shimmer shades.

This palette came beautifully packaged in a gorgeous black box with rose gold decoration. The palette was inside a gorgeously soft pouch inside the box, which adds an extra element of luxury. The palette itself has a matte black case and a beautiful rose gold clasp, which I’ve never seen on a palette before.

Inside the case lid is a mirror – I love Makeup Revolution for this – and a double-ended brush. The shades themselves are beautiful. The matte colour is a white, perfect for highlighting the brow bone, as I did today. The pink and bronze tones are intensely shimmery and pigmented. The final two shades have reflective glitters in them and are stunning.

I created an eye look today using a majority of the shades in the palette –

  • Use the matte white to highlight the centre of the brow bone
  • The lighter brown on the outer V and slightly into the crease, also along the lower lash line
  • The copper tone over the rest of the lid and along the inner part of the lower lash line
  • The light pink on inner corners as a highlight

The shades in the palette are very easy to work with and blend. I experienced little to no fall out. The shadows are of a very high quality.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this palette. The packaging is stunning and compact enough to travel with. I also think this palette would make a brilliant gift.

Makeup in a Hurry! (Featuring the Primark PS… Foundation Stick)

This tutorial was requested by my good friend Emily. She wanted me to have a go at a look which can be achieved in minimal time before rushing off to work or to somewhere else of importance.

To begin with, I cleansed and moisturised my face as usual. I also applied a primer, to keep my makeup in place all day – very handy if you’re busy at work.

On the weekend, I popped into my local Primark to check out their makeup (again!) and saw their foundation sticks. I didn’t own a stick foundation, until this one. It was an amazing £2 and I thought it would be perfect for this post because it’s much faster to use than liquid foundation.

I put it over my face and then blended it out with my Real Techniques Foundation Brush. I’m really pleased with the coverage actually and it lasted all day. For £2, you really can’t go wrong.

Now for the eyes! I used a beautiful neutrals palette by Makeup Revolution. It was in my 12 Days of Christmas set.

I firstly put this lovely neural shade all over my lids with a fluffy eye brush –

Next I used a medium-dark brown in my crease –

Finally, I put a slight shimmer in the inner corners, using this pretty pink shade –

If you’re looking to be speedy, it’s important to find a decent concealer, that will blend out easily when you’re in a rush, but also give you amazing coverage. I use the L’Oreal True Match Concealer and it is fabulous. A little goes a long way with this one.

For speedy eyebrows, I use my old favourite the Collection Eyebrow Definer Pencil in Blonde and then go over this with the Rimmel Brow This Way Brow Styling Gel in Medium Brown to tidy my lashes up and hold them in place.

My favourite, go to blush has to be Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop. I wear this most days actually as it is just beautiful and makes my skin look so healthy. It’s definitely worth investing in one of these as they last ages and are perfectly portable.

Finally, to give my skin glow which makes me feel like I woke up like this I use Too Faced’s Candlelight Glow in Rosy Glow. This is another regular favourite of mine – as you can see from the pan reveal!

I decided to use a mascara which has instant impact and quick and easy application, and this is the Aldi Lacura Beauty 3D Effect Mascara.

To complete the look, I used the NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick NYX Lip Lingerie Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bedtime Flirt. This stuff has amazing staying power and the applicator makes it so easy to apply. Another fantastic makeup product, definitely worth buying.

And there we have it! A quick, easy and low budget look to create! The only exception to the low budget is the Too Faced Candlelight Glow – but there are plenty of dupes out there. I hope this helps and I hope you love it Emily – definitely need to see you with this look now! If you too have a makeup tutorial suggestion, please let me know. I’d love to have a go!

50 Shades… Themed Makeup

As the new 50 Shades Darker film was released a few days ago, I thought I’d have a go at a grey makeup theme. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the books or films myself – I don’t really understand the whole man hurting a woman for pleasure thing, but each to their own! I wore this makeup for a meal with my husband on Valentine’s Day. This is just a quick eye makeup tutorial and once again I’ve included lots of photos for step-by-step guides.

Before I begin, I received a few nasty comments from one individual the other day on a photo of my Valentine’s makeup on Instagram. I’d just like to say firstly that I’m not a professional makeup artist, I do this for fun and to improve my own skills. I just really love sharing with you guys and most of you seem to like it! Secondly, can we all just be nice to each other? Us girls should just stick together, don’t you think? Anyway, enough of that. Let’s get started!

As before, I prepped my face with my usual favourites –

  • Soap & Glory Speed Plump Moisturiser
  • Carmex lip balm
  • L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oreal True Match Concealer in Vanilla
  • MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as an eye primer
  • Collection Precision Contour
  •  Collection Eyebrow Definer
  • PS… Pro HD Mascara

My eyeshadow palette of choice this time was my Morphe 35N (I seriously love this palette!) and I used my amazing Spectrum Collections Eye Blending Brush Set.

Over my MAC Paint Pot in the shade Painterly, which I use as a eye primer, I covered my whole lid and brow bone in a neutral shade.

Next I used the beautiful light grey shade over my lids.

I then used a darker shade of grey in my crease. This was tricky to blend and looked a bit messy, so I went in again with the light grey and blended it all out.

Next I used a tiny amount of a purple shade from the palette and applied it to the outer corners.

That’s all from the eyeshadow palette – now for some glitter! I used my Glitter Eyes pressed glitter in the shade Nirvana. This stuff is beautiful! It has rainbow glitter in it which looks stunning when it catches the light. I used it along my lower lash line.

I finished the eye look off with some more eyelashes from Beauty Atelier Shop. These are handmade, cruelty free mink lashes called #Softly. They are extremely comfortable as they have a light-weight band. You can buy the lashes here. If you enter the code KER 10 at the checkout, you’ll get free shipping (you can thank me later!).

I found the perfect matte, liquid lipstick to go with this look and this was NYX Lip Lingerie in the shade Embellishment. This is a beautiful greyish purple, definitely one of my favourites.

Here it is, the finished look! I really hope you like this one. Let me know if there are any other makeup looks or themes you’d like me to have a go at. I like a good project!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and enjoy the rest of your week – it’s almost the weekend!

Fun Valentine’s Day Makeup

Yay, I’m so excited about this one! Baby J had a long nap this afternoon, so instead of cleaning, doing the washing, blah, etc. I played around with my makeup collection! I’ve been planning a Valentine’s look for a couple of weeks and I really hope you like it. It’s quite OTT in some places, but you can use what you want from it. I took a no makeup selfie to start with, for a bit of ‘before and after’.

I haven’t gone into detail over my whole face prep, as I’ve done that before in my Christmas look and it hasn’t really changed much since then. I’ve taken a photo of everything I used and here is the list –

  • Soap & Glory Speed Plump Moisturiser
  • Carmex lip balm
  • L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oreal True Match Concelaer in Vanilla
  • MAC Paint Pot in Painterly as an eye primer
  • Collection Precision Contour
  •  Collection Eyebrow Definer
  • PS… Pro HD Mascara

I have put the focus of this post onto my eye makeup, as it’s the statement part of the whole look. For eyeshadow I used the amazing Makeup Revolution 144 Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette Collection 2017 (an amazing £10!) I’ve written about it before here.

I’ve taken step-by-step photos as I feel it’s easier to show you what I did, you can also see what brushes I used for each part of the eye, they’re from the Spectrum Eye Blending Set.

  1. I applied a peachy nude to my whole lid and up to the brow bone

2. A light pink in my crease

3. I went over the crease again with this darker pink shade

4. The darkest pink in that column was then applied to my outer corners

5. I used the neon pink as a liner on half of my under eyes

6. I then used the bright lilac on the other half of my under eye and blended them together for a gradient effect

7. I used a bright, shimmery, light pink on the centre of my lids

8. I completed the work with the shadows by applying Unicorns Heart highlighter – the pink shade – to the inner corners to make my eyes pop!

Here’s how it looked when they eye shadow process was complete –

To make the look fun and unique, I applied The Sparkles Store Valentine’s Mix loose glitter to my inner corners and then picked out the cute little hearts and stuck them with glitter fixing glue on my outer brow bone.

Now for the lashes! These are called #Sexy and are from Beauty Atelier Shop. You can purchase them here. You can also use this code – KER 10 – for free shipping, woohoo! The eyelashes are handmade and 100% silk. They are so comfortable to wear and create an instant car eye look! Beauty Atelier Shop also have other amazing and exclusive items that you need to check out. I will be uploading a video about some of their products in the next few days.

For highlight, I used Glitter Eyes highlight in the shade ThatGlo. My blush is from a palette in the Makeup Revolution 12 Days of Christmas box.

And finally…lips. I used the awesome Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matt Lip Kit in Echelon .

And there we have it! I’m so pleased with the final result! Unfortunately, my camera didn’t pick up the prettiness of the highlighter, it has an iridescent pink shimmer in certain lights. Believe me when I say that it’s beautiful.

What will you be doing on Valentine’s Day?

Happy Valentine’s Day 2017 Sparkle with Kerry readers! Love you all!

Beauty Product Review – The Balm NUDE’tude Eyeshadow Palette

Oh how I loved a well packaged, quirky makeup product! Here is a new fave – The Balm’s NUDE’tude Eyeshadow Palette. It consists of 12 gorgeous nude shades.

I already own the How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek and Lip Cream Palette which has the most hilarious packaging.

I love the half-naked cowboys and their loose links to the blushers inside!

The packaging in the NUDE’tude palette is also fabulous. This time we have illustrated ladies with the eyeshadows in place of their underwear.

The colours have been given names in the form of adjectives beginning with the letter ‘S’. My husband found it hilarious to ask me to guess which one he thinks best describes me, I answered with ‘Sassy? Sultry?’. But no, his answer was ‘Stubborn’ – nice!

I have swatched the palette below –

Sassy, Stubborn, Selfish, Sophisticated
Sexy, Serious
Snobby, Stand-offish, Sultry, Seductive, Silly, Sleek

I used the palette today to create this eye look –

  • Stubborn – all over the eyelid
  • Sultry – crease and cat eye
  • Snobby – inner crease and inner corner
  • Stand-offish – centre of lid
  • Sassy – Brow bone

I also have the How ‘Bout Them Apples blush on in Cider.

Overall, the palette contains some highly pigmented shades. When I first received the palette I felt slightly disappointed by the tiny amounts of eyeshadows you get, but upon using it I can see that you only need a little of each shade. A little goes a long way!

Happy New Year 2017!

Wow, I can’t believe we’re in January already! I hope you all had a lovely New Year’s Eve and you’re chilling out and enjoying today. 2016 saw this blog reinvent itself and grow and I’ve loved every minute of writing it.

This year has been an emotional roller coaster and I won’t go into details about this because that’s not what this blog is about and talking about my personal life is not something I do, but I just wanted to say a big thank you for supporting it. All your comments, shares and ‘likes’ really make it all worthwhile and really spurs me on. A special mention to Gareth, my Mum, my sister Emma, Emily and her sister Charlotte, Natasha, Hollie and Leanne for being so kind about what I do and encouraging me to do more.

That’s enough of the soppy stuff! I thought I’d share my New Year’s Eve makeup look with you.

Face –

  • Barry M Colour Correcting Primer
  • L’Oréal True Match Foundation in Vanilla Rose
  • L’Oréal True Match Powder
  • L’Oréal True Match Concealer

Eyes –

  • Morphe 35N Eyeshadow Palette – I used a pink shade all over the lid and black on the outer corners and lower lash line, forming a cat eye
  • Too Faced Nikkie Tutorials kit glitter over the top of the pink shade

  • Mascara was my old fave, Primark’s PS Pro High Definition Mascara
Yes, I wore cat ears! Why not, hey?

Lips –

I used the darkest shade of the Makeup Revolution Lip Gloss Nude Edit which came in my 12 Days of Christmas box. I made the gloss matte (look out for a blog post on how to do this tomorrow!)

Blush, Contour and Highlight –

  • Blush – Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette in a pink shade
  • Contour – from the Tanya Burr Peachy Glow palette
  • Highlight – Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild

And there we have it! I’m especially pleased with my eyeshadow work this time and I put that down to my brilliant Spectrum set of brushes from my husband.
